Anyone here done this? Is it voluntary or did you get assigned to it?

Just curious, thanks!

Sorry
I have never been on a CSE team but I have been apart of forming several. I am sure it dffers from each NMCB but we tried to use volunteers but would assign members as needed. Some times you have to turn members down because you need thier skills.

AOIC for NMCB-26 ADN CSE...we screened about 45 people before we got down to the 24. Some people did not want to put in the extra work, some did. Some were rocks, others good. You can volunteer all you want, but it is for the best of the TEAM if you get selected.

I am the CC for CSE currently in SW Asia. The whole team was volunteer. We started it up in july of 2006, and even a little earlier. Everyone is a volunteer. Some who were known to me as hard chargers, I asked if they wanted to be on it. But generally, nobody will select you. If you are good at BCS, and hopefully SCW's qualified, go to whoever is your Echo 5, and tell them you are interested. It is a lot of hard work, we all drilled extra drills and at times for no pay as we are reservists from dets around the midwest. We took a lot of extra classes in mob process, before we got here, while the rest of the battalion got time off. But it is worthwhile if that is your thing.

I just got home a month or so ago from 7 months in the desert as a part of my battalion's CSE. My opinion, best job in battalion, hands down. And for many reasons. I requested, as most people did, to be on it. Homeport is pretty training intensive and we basically did two FEX's, but on deployment it was all worth it. Very rewarding job. Beer

Posted three video's of our past two deployments, just search Shock n Awe for Seabee ..served on TMT with NMCB7/17 (original name) and CSE with 17, it was voluntary for our battalion. Like the other post said best job in battalion but never forget your primary rate nor put yourself above the rest and you'll do fine.
