HEy Im Am currently an FC ive been in AD for 2 years now But just got to my first command 8 months ago but i really dont like my rate and would rather enjoy being a CM i already have a civilian Vocational School Degree For Automotive Technology i recieved in 2005 what is it that i have to do in order to crossrate in a CM
So you are in the Navy and after a year of so you have completed the second hardest A and C schools we have and and are out on some ship. I don't know your NEC's but anyone you might have is going to be in a higher CREO group than any SeaBee rate CM or otherwise which have always been very full and advanced very slowly becasue of it. Variuos CB rates being still E-5 at 10 or 12 years was not exactly uncommon but if you were an ET or even an FC you had to be a real screwup to make that happen.
From the Navies perspective why after all the time and money they put into making you an FC should they now let ypu throw that all away because you would NOW rather be some kind of glorified shade tree mechanic.
You say you had that training, then why didn't you go for that to begin with even if it meant you would have had to wait a while for a "slot to open up"
At this point I would say that when your enlistment is up you will have to threaten to get out unless you can crossrate and quite possibly have to carry through with that threat. Even the they may only be willing to let you back in as an FC.
Boomer7978 I wish I could help you but I do not know the active side very well being a reservist. You can put a crossrate package in through your Career Councilor and if CM is more critical than FC you could crossrate. It is better to do it before you get to deep in your present rate. As far as advancement goes I have seen a lot of CMs advance some CB rates do move faster. I will not even touch the Glorified Shade Tree Mechanic remark. But I will say if you can make the switch you will never find a better group of brother and sisters than the Bees.
I was gonna post a new thread, but this one is on the same line. Im ET, and thanks to some hard luck about 5 years ago, have some ugly credit scars that might keep me from getting security clearance. So Force Conversion has come up and im looking at rates. Considering CM or EO. Any info on those? What is the school and what kind of training do I go thru to cross over to seabee?
