I talked to a recuiter about the seabees, and liked what I heard. I would like to be a equipment operator or mechanic. I was wondering how important the ASAVB is? Is this something I should study for? The recuiter said its not a big deal and I did good on the practice test. He also said there isnt many reserve seabees being sent off to Iraq or afganistan. Is that true or is he full of it?

Well i just signed up in oct to be a EO and only scored a 48 on my asvab. You should always study before you take the asvab why not do it. Your line scores will matter alot for seabee jobs i guess mine were really good because my recruiter told me he hasnt seen line scores that high in awhile. Its funny you say that about the reserves because my recruiter told me the exact opposite so who knows.

So your recuiter said the seabees reserve is doing alot in iraq? I know the recuiters lie alot, I had a army recuiter in high school call me and Im pretty sure he was crying when I said I wasnt going to join. They must get paid to sign someone up.

I was looking into the national guard or army reserve and a woman from the navy called and told me about the seabees. The seabees sounds alot better then what I heard about the national guard.

I was planning to study for the ASVAB, I may as well. Im sure getting a good score wouldnt hurt my plans about the seabees.

Recruiters say alot we had a Marine recruiter who bothered the kids and teachers at a high school so much that recruiters from all branches arent allowed there anymore. He must be doing something right though because he got 6 or 7 people that i went to school with join. Im going to let someone else come in and tell you about the whole reserves vs active getting deployed thing they will know more but i do recommend you going to your public library and checking out an asvab book well worth it because getting a high score can never hurt right Wink.

On the practice test I think I had a 68 and he said the test is usualy 10 points higher from what you had on the practice test. That was without doing any studying.

Don't believe that. I am a reservist and have been twice. It reserve units cycle through just like active duty does. Being deployed is what we train for, and it was some of teh best times of my life.

I'll double up on what Chief said - you should expect to be deployed. Not going is the exception to the rule. With all the work to be done in both those areas, the Seabees will be there for quite some time, and that means Reservists will be backing them up. They tell me I'm on my way next year...

Line scores.

If your good at math you will do good on the asvab it basically revolves around math. I did very good in the english parts of the test only one or two wrong but the math part is what killed my score. Its also good if you know alittle about contsruction and mechanics i aced both of them parts.

Working for CBC/20THSRG in Gulfport, i would say the reserves deploy just as much as the active side of the house does.

No just being a recruiter can make or break your career.

How long have you been in the seabees and do you like it?

If I join I think Ill become a mechanic, that should help with getting a job here at home.

Are you attached to the 20th SRG, or just working down there in the NOSC?

My uncle loved it but hes been out for a while and he was a plumber, not a mechanic. He never got sent out anywhere, they may send the seabee reserve out alot now. My cousin was in the navy full time on a ship then got out after 3 years or whatever it was. Now he just joined the seabee reserve.
