I'm in the process of losing weight right now to join the Navy, and I'm hoping to become a SeaBee. I have a question, however, concerning which rating I should choose considering my goals after the Navy.
Following the Navy, I would like to expand on a business a good friend of mine is beginning this year in Sri Lanka. Ideally, I would be working out of the Maldives running a construction supply import/export business, or potentially working as a construction project manager (with a focus on the ordering/securing of the necessary imported materials)
That having been said, is/are there are rates within the SeaBees that I should aim for? With what info I have now, I'm planning on going BU simply because I love building, but if there is a better rate that will be more helpful to my long term goals, I'd change.
Thanks a lot, and if you have any questions concerning my plans or want me to explain any further, please let me know.

Doesn't really matter what rate you choose per se. BU is a good one. The more rank you make, the less you will swing a hammer anyway. As you progress, you will be tasked with putting together project packets, filling out CAS sheets, working in the MLO(material liason office), which would all benefit you in a civilian construction supply type career. Or you could be the guy that never works in his rate. I have never worked in mine as an EO. At least not since I was about an E-3/E-4.

Do Seabees need security clearances? And if so, what type?
You will need to fill out your clearance paperwork, adn at least have a temp. clearance. If you don't get it, you can still be a 'Bee, just don't plan on doing anything other than swinging a hammer. Which is fine, but you can't be in the COC, be on CSE, work with COMMS, etc.
