PORT HUENEME Calif. (NNS) -- A groundbreaking ceremony was held for a new Seabee Museum in Port Hueneme, Calif., at Naval Base Ventura County, Port Hueneme Aug. 25.

Established in 1947, the U.S. Navy Seabee Museum is the second oldest of the official U.S. Navy museums and is owned and operated by the Navy as part of the Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC).

"Thanks shipmates and to your [the CEC/Seabee Historical Foundation] for making this dream a reality. This is truly a banner week for the Navy Museum Enterprise of 12 official Navy museums," said retired Rear Adm. Jay DeLoach, NHHC director, to those gathered for the ceremony.
