I am in the process of applying for the NUPOC program. But I also listed CEC as a third choice on my application. I have an interview with a CEC Officer on Thursday so I have been reading up on the CEC program quite a bit. Originally it was just an after-thought to the NUPOC program that my recruiter recommended as a third choice (first two are NUPOC Sub & Surface), but the more I read about the CEC program, the more interested I have become.

I am not sure of my chances with the NUPOC program...is CEC any less competitive? I have a Mechanical Engineering degree and graduated with a 3.52 GPA. I didn't have a ton of extra-curricular activities in college, but I did hold a few leadership positions at my fraternity and did quite a bit of volunteer work. My recruiter told me a lot of people would go NUPOC over CEC for the pay...what would be so different about the pay? Also, any suggestions or tips on what to expect with the CEC interview? And any general thoughts about the CEC program are welcome as well.

Thanks.

I enjoy the CEC, I think it was a great choice. I'm on the reserve side, but I work with a lot of CEC in my civilian job as well. CEC has the NAVFAC side of contracting and construction management working a lot with civilians. There's also the "green machine" side working with Seabees and NMCBs or the other groups.

I believe some highly competitive fields, like medical and Nukes, get more money for their expertise. CEC does not. No thoughts on what the interview might be like, probably going to point out that the deployment tempo for CEC officers is pretty high-paced right now and that you have to be ready for that.

All in all, I think the CEC is a great field to be in, combining the engineering skills and experience you have from college with military leadership and discipline.

Any BS in Engineering or Architecture should do. I've got a Fire Protection Engineering degree, don't use a lick of my actual engineering education in my CEC job.

I went to the University of Maryland, ABET accredited. I'm not sure if they give waivers on that.
