Well I am going to NMCB 40 at the end of Nov. And I'm not a Seebee but I would like to start working on getting the warfare pin now. Are the any websites where I can get this information. Also when I get there, there is a 2 week class I am supposed to take. Is there any websites or books I can look at about that stuff?
I'd start with your Seabee Combat Warfare Volumes 1 and 2 books. Get those off of CNET.
The big thing to check off is a FEX. I know NMCB 40 just got back from theirs a week ago because I was out there with 15 at the same time. So it might be a little while until you can get that checked off.
btcyp, You need to complete these courses first: 1. Seabee Combat Handbook Volume 1 and 2 2. Naval Safety Supervisor 3. Naval Construction Force 1&C Then you have to do 3M watchstander for construction force
The first three can be done through the CNET online through NKO, the second is on NKO through E-learning. V/R UT1 (SCW)
EN3 During your board they will want you to do a camp layout, they will also hit hard on ABFC, weapons, RRR and since you are in ACB they should question you on ElCAS and other ACB stuff. Good luck..
Hey Senior, Things are pretty good .We will qualify with weapons next month and we did a real good project in AZ on the border that lasted for three months. I drill in Knoxville but I try to drill at the RSS once a quarter. I was just trying to help EN3 out . I did my board and I needed all the help I could get. I did get the bug and will not give anymore secrets
It is great to see guys from 24 helping others out. I hope to get back to 24 sometime but right now I am drilling with 14 in Jacksonville. Tell everyone in Knoxville I said Hi
There is nothing wrong with a hook up but SW2 is basing his advice off of NMCB24 and not ACB-1. Camp lay out is big with us but might not be as big with them. But with that a side we all ways looked to see if you could put it together while on your feet and not give textbook answers. I have know seabee who could give chapter and verse answers but when as why they wanted to do "X" they could not tell you. By the way camp layout is diffrent based on # of personel, Berthing,...ect. good luck and get your bee
I hate to intrude on a Navy board but I have to ask; have any of you had a non-Navy (ie other service member) earn the SCW Badge? Ive heard that a USAF officer earned his, but I cant find the specifics on how. How would a non-USN type earn it?
They would have to be assigned to the Seabees and it would have to be a qualifying unit. (battalion) I have never heard of anyone but a Marine being assigned to the Seabees.
But the question is does NMCB40 have ADCON as well as OPCON of these units. In other words are they Assigned as a part of 40 or just working with 40. When we went to Iraq we were assigned to II MEF so we could get the FMF but the Marine's HM were not assigned to us so they could not get the SCW.
I was just assigned to ACB-1 det 102 back in April. I will be doing my first FEX this August, (SEAHAWK down at Camp Pendelton). As you know, ACB-1 is a special type of Seabee batallion since we have a boat crew and deal with the ELCAS. You should be able to get your SCW a lot quicker than a reservist such as myself. I personally do my homework on the side and don't wait for it to come to me. On our ACB-1 website you can download powerpoint presentations along with pdf files that pertain to the SCW classes. Being proactive is the best thing you can do, when I was down there this past June on our 4 day exercise I attended the SCW classes and got my HMMWV license. I already had a feeling I was going to Seabee unit a year ago, it was either ACB-1 or NMCB 17 and knocked out the required CNET books. I will be there on the 3rd weekend of July (21st and 22nd). I can help if you need it.
Appriciate it IT3, even though I still have to do my BCS 2 class I am still getting my SCWS books together and getting some signatures. I will be sure to look you up when the reserves come through in July.
I have a question and I apoligize in advance if it is a "mentally retarded" question but are their any ITs assigned to seabee units and if not are they are there some assigned to a base such as Port Hueneme. Also can outside seabee rates earn their SCWs?
Yes we have ITs in the Seabees and yes Non OF13 rates can earn the SCWS if they are assigned to a qualifying unit. There is no dumb question except the one you do not ask.
