Can anyone give me any info about the SCW pin being grandfathered, I was in MCB1 in Viet Nam in 68-69. Are we authorized to apply? Went through Fogerty in Davisville and Lejeune twice also counterinsurgency and gurrela warefare school at Lejeune. Thanks
To th eoriginal poster, william is correct on both counts, what it means, adn you should know. Just a piece of advice, don't come on here, and expect us to give you answers for your board. You have to study and look it up like the rest of us. Have fun with Naval Safety Supervisor

I know in the late 90's they were grandfathering in guys who'd been in awhile, so there must be a way to do it. Best bet is to call/e-mail someone from a batallion. I'll ask around and see what I can find out.
I remember in the mid 90's that they were grandfathering people. I spoke to a seabee up at the Davisville Museum who was in Vietnam I think who said he was grandfathered but I think the time limit may have run out. call the Seabee store there and ask (401) 294-7233. sorry I do not have a name.
Hey numbers, I have asked several different people, and guess what? I have gotten several different answers, lol. Have you found anything out yet? FWIW, IMO, I'd say you qualify. Let me know what they say. I have plenty of extra SCW pins laying aorund, I would be honored to send you one, so at least you could be an 'honorary' pin holder. Let me know.

Sad to say you're most likely going to find, that like those of us that served in the Brownwater Navy of Vietnam, you'll be given or allowed to wear a "commemorative pin/badge..
The quals and rules are so much more "stringent" nowdays don't ya know. With a nod to former CNO Adm. Vern Clarke.
My remarks are in NO way shape or form ment to demean the men and women that are actually DOING the job! My remarks are aimed those in power that make and institute stupid decisions/rules.
the last instruction i have access, OPNAVINST 1410.1C N434 13 Dec 2005, SEABEE COMBAT WARFARE QUALIFICATION does NOT contain the "grandfather" clause.
I believe the orginal instuction did contain it. i believe it had verbiage "navy personnel assigned or supported" MCB or MCT during combat operations. i believe there was a 120 day window to submit for the pin.
