From what I hear it is not finished yet. The rumor is it will be like the Marine uniform with out the Eagle, Globe and Anchor hidden in the pattern. It would be smart and save money just to put us in Marine uniforms because we work with, and for them so much. Besides the Air Force wears the same DUUs as we do over here and I don't want to be confused with them.

Isn't that the uniform the whole Navy fleet is going to wear, in a different color palette?

Yes, the NWU will include a woodland and desert version.

It is still being worked out BUT ... When SEABEEs deploy with Marine Corps units, they will be able to draw gear from the Marine Corps supply system. This will include Body Armor, load bearing equipment and whatever other doodads are required for the mission.

UTCMAC, there is talk of doing exactly that. The MARPAT is a silkscreen with the last one being the embedded EGAs. All it would take is to not screen on the last layer and change the pocket.

Why change the fleeters uniform at all, were has the history/tradition gone! The coasties wear the ODU and look like civilian police, they are as bad as the utility greens I wore when I first became a SEABEE. All ground units should wear the same type of uniform and all be able to draw from whatever place...

The mission may be different from service to service, but the goal should be the same "KISS"...

Oh and since were all on the topic of uniforms. Is it acceptable wear the winter set of cammies with the sleeves rolled up to your command? I would like to know because I can barely fit in my summer cammies and until some new ones get ordered I would preferable wear my better fitting winter set for my June drill.

Just a thought...when I went in, in 1966 rumors flew all the time about the Seabee uniform, none of us wanted to look like 'Fleet Sailors' in Dress Blues. We were with the Marines and wanted to look like it. The only difference in the Utilities, was ours had the Seabee insignia on the pocket and we had a choice in soft hats...8 point Marine or 4 point Army.

We were told constantly we were going to wear a beret, probably Navy Blue, but they were debating the color. We're STILL waiting to lose the silly 'dixie cup'.

The only difference between a Seabee and a Marine was 'boot camp'. When you went through Military Training, Marines were in Command, Seabees were Instructor's, the only CEC Officer's were students.

David,

None of my commands ever made winter/summer cammies a requirement. The sleeves can be rolled or down, except during formation where we expect to be uniform.

A Marine LCpl laughed in my face when I told him that.

That was at the beginning of the deployment. By the end, when our construction project was done early and theirs was running late, he didn't seem to object...

Bob058,

I went into the Army in 1987, got out in 1991, waited 13 years and went into the Seabees in 04. I never knew how far the Bees were from fleet side. I thought, "It's the Navy. I'm sure I'll see water". Yeah...8 drills later and I was in Iraq. I got to see that water...The Euphrates River to be exact. LOL
I'm tired of the old woodland camo and I would like to see more distinction between the Seabees and the fleet side dress uniforms. I agree with you on the Dixie cup thing.
I don’t really like it. I wouldn’t want a beret either. Maybe a service cap or the old style cover.
I believe the Seabees have certainly earned the right to have a distinctive uniform.
I may have started in the Army but I would never give up the Seabees!

Can Do!

Welcome aboard, Mac, We are Seabee's to the bone, but we still use that Navy jargon. ;) But, you gotta lose that Corporal stuff, that's definetly not Navy. If you want to see water request an ACB (Amphib), they do the ship stuff...long side Marines. Shore installations, etc. While stationed on Red Beach, north of Danang in the Nam, we tried getting on a Landing Craft unloading at our Causeway. They thought we were Marines and refused us. The only time I wore the Dress Blues was in boot camp and as Color Guard for parades. I didn't like it at all, but I don't want the Marine Blues either. We're not sailors, we're Seabees and we are combat trained alongside Marines. The only ships I've ever been on were museums and I carried more ammo than they did. I'm all for a distinctive uniform...and would buy one today if it ever came out. Seabees are a proud lot and don't take kindly to being called sailors. Remember, Marines are part of the Navy, but try calling them sailors.

That's how I always felt Bob, I may have been in the Navy, but I was not a Sailor. I was a SEABEE.

Not that it really matters any longer, but we SEABEES are no more entitled to our "own type" of uniform then any other branch of our military! As far as working uniforms I say we all dress alike (except for unit patches/badges)that way we all pull from one source. The dress uniforms for us Navy people should not Change!!!

Just my flapping my Jaws...CAN DO!

The dress uniforms are changing anyway and have gone through several changes over the years.
All I would say change would be that ridiculous-looking bottle cap we call the Dixie cup. There have been several changes since WWII.
My Uncle's whites from that era were made of cotton. And I think there was also a different cover. A blue one I think. Seabees could go back to that one.
With me too. I'm just bumpin' my gums!

See Ya,
Mac

We're all just talking here. Smile

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Fleet drop the dungrees for the same type green camo we've been wearing since about 2001? Why does the Fleet need GREEN CAMO on a ship? Next thing ya know they'll be planting bushes to hide behind.

My Daughter knows a fellow Corpsman that was issued Desert Camo and he is stationed in Pensacola. he gets to wear them a few days a week. He works in the Hospital.
I can't for the life of me figure out why.
LOL
Yes...I've seen pics of guys on a flight deck wearing woodland camo.

Oh yeah...My Son is a Boats on a cruiser and got issued Desert camo also. Not to wear all the time.

I heard they are down to two colors for the beret, the navy blue and a black and yellow striped one.

Airdales working on the flight deck used to wear green pants (old school greens). When the surplus of these ran out they switched to green camo for E6 and below and Desert for E7+ who work on the flight deck.

Black and yellow??? That would make a nice target, all those yellow stipes. I get the bee connection, but personally, I think stripes would look stupid. But then, the Navy Blue will look just general Navy, like the 'popeye hat' in the '50's, no Seabee distinction.

Oh well, that's probably why nobody's come up with one, yet.
