I have always been hearing about how females can do all but two jobs in the Navy those two jobs are "SEALs and serving aboard submarines". I know why females can't be in the SEALs because it is spec ops (which females are barred from) but why cant they serve on subs?

It falls under the catagory of habitability. Privacy does not exist on a submarine and berthing and head space is limited. On Fast Attack Boats there is hot racking due to a shortage of beds. This is where you have 3 sailors sharing 2 beds. One is on watch and the other two might be sleeping in the racks, provided they have finished their quals. It is not that women are not capable of doing the jobs. There is just not enough room for separate berthing.

Wink In half seriousness , the mental disposition of folks who sail under water could lead to some questionable situations if for no other reason than to create a questionable situation . 3/4 thru patrol gets a bit weird Eek Roll Eyes Big Grin

Then there is the walking down the halls on a FA, if two of you are passing each other, body contact is going to happen (unless you both weigh 70 lbs when wet). Unfortunately for some people out there, they could take that as meaning sexual harassment. Then there is the birth control issue, what happens if the woman who is on board get pregnant right before deployment? Who is going to take her spot? Then there is storage for personal items, there isn't any & you can be limited to what you can use. The list goes on from there.

ha ha ha, momentary blank on my part, so you got me. caused by a 4 day holiday weekend for the children (local holiday), our little girl turning 6 and expecting 15 kids at her party (not that many showed up), so running around trying to get everything in place, make & decorate the cake, and going into week 3 of my new job

The current Navy regs on berthing for separate genders could not be implemented on submarines because of design flaws.

Frankly, there is no place they could sleep while conforming with USN regs on mixed gender crews.

If enough of them want to serve and have the skills, they could just have their own sub... Smile

Now see for years I have said if we really wanted to get rid of terrorists get a all female Sub crew, Spec Op team and destroyer, wait till they are all on the same cycle or going through menopause and tick em off. Terrorists? What terrorists? Wink

Yeah it was interesting, luckily we had a pool party so there was lifeguards there to help out. I just filled them with lots of sugar and sent them home to their parents. Almost stayed at the club and had a nice drink afterwards but had to get all the things home, so didn't get to.

Who would have enough experience to be the CO? The COB? Or even the division Chief for that matter...
