Basic Training |
Since my enlistment I have been trying to find info on the Navy's environmental research, i.e. training dolphins or any env. research conducted by the Navy. During my enlistment processes, I was "informed" that joining the sub force would lead me into such work. Well, I here now and I tell you, you should have been there to see the look on Master Cheifs face when I told him that. Although, I was grosley mislead, I do not regret joining the "real navy." It is an honor and is something to be very proud of. Currently, I am halfway through sts "A" school and anxously waiting my first boat. In closing, if there is any info or direction I could take, please let me know. Thank you.

you mean this? You get those jobs after a few internships through college.
One of the seals they have at mystic aquarium was part of the program and is now "retired from active duty". If I remember correctly he's 21. NR-1 does a lot of work with scientists and oceanography (look up Dr Ballard), but there's only one non-nuke billet and it's on the support ship. Not sure that STS would be eligible for it, though. Last guy I knew that held it was a a-ganger. I take that back, there's a Master-Diver qualified Doc assigned to the support ship as well. |
