about the big lazy slow moving flies that showed up after you had been underway for a month or two (and submerged the entire time)? Wink

Naahh...we just killed them...and counted the corpses.

Gave out an award to the highest number of confirmed kills, too, as I recall.

Yeahhh...it was a great mystery. Now, on a smokeboat, it wasn't a great mystery how they got in the boat - we had to snorkel every night, even though we remained submerged. So there was a direct link to the outside world. BUT, how the hell did the flies get that far out in the "XXXXXX Sea" in weather that cold?

Well, as the nuns used to tell us when I was in grammar school: "It's none of your concern. It's a mystery".

Shark, we are talking about flies so big you can hear them coming. These are not the little quick moving ones you see around your house if a door gets left open too long. These things have to file flight plans before they take off.

Months after the fresh fruit is gonetoo. They are also VERY slow moving. I remember one MT who caught one and tied some string to it. Flew it around the Missle Compartment for a day or two as his "pet kite".

Hang on, hang on! Whattaya think those sleeveless animal skin thingys were? They were big sellers in the Olduvai Gorge Flea Market!

Speaking of fleas...and flies - you know you're in trouble when they start showing up with little bitty pocket dosimeters strapped to their legs! Remember the movie "The Fly"? The guy reminded me of a couple of shipmates on a smokeboat after libs in Yoko. Big Grin

Heh, heh...once she figured out what boats I was on and when - and what the reunion websites are (contact lists, too) - it was all over in trying to 'hide' anything. Besides, she's waaaay cool - and gorgeous and brilliant and...well, you get the idea.
