Among your more than 4,000 brothers on eternal patrol are 70 of the USS GRunion, sunk in 1942.

Am sure you know the story about CO Abele's family and friends searching for, finding the boat.

Also, dedicated volunteers worked for years to find relatives of each and every crew member. As they were found, local newspapers were alerted and wrote stories.

Each crew member now has a book with his name on the cover and including his and Grunion stories.

October 10-12, Cleveland. These books, among other historical memorabilia, including from participating sub historian Jim Cristley, will be a part of this first-ever formal gathering of Grunion families and friends. The event is being hosted by USS COD Base, with the majority of ceremonial activities at the base on Saturday.

If you live in Northeast Ohio or will be visiting the area, consider the Saturday, Oct. 11 event.

Otherwise, at 2 pm Saturday, Oct. 11, tolling of bells, remember the Grunion's 70 Dolphin brothers.

PS: While I seldom get responses from my posts, nice to see that they're sometimes viewed.

Nancy, I was stationed with a Chief Yockey in about the 72-78 timeframe. Any relation to you?

Mike: From 1970-1972, CDR Harry Yockey was CO, USS Salmon 573. Yockey is a rather unusual name. Wonder what the Chief's first name was? I could look him up in Buddy Finder. Was he on Grayling with you?

See there's an E-5 James Yockey.

I may have met CDR Yockey during the final WestPac fro the USS Salmon. I was homeported in Subic Bay at that time so we were all over WestPac.

Thinking back on it, I believe it was Senior Chief Yockey but I don't remember his first name. Dang I hate this getting old part where I get CRS when it comes to remembering names. I believe I was stationed with Senior Chief Yockey at Fleet Training Group in San Diego.

I did think the name was rather unusual so, in some way, you probably are related. Just wondering if it might be someone you know. Unfortunately I've lost touch with most of the people that I knew back then and some I would really love to get in touch with again.

As not real familiar with rates, would an E-5 be a senior chief?

No. E-5 is a second class.
Senior Chief would be E-8

USS Liberty, Never Forget.

I believe in Murrays Law, he thought Murphy was an optimist.
