Read it and weep, Brothers of the 'Phin. Notice that the person was said to have had 'two familiarization tours to prepare for command'. We used to call those 'family cruises'. DACOWITS Strikes Again. Comments?

I'm just not sure I believe it... You can't make an entire sub female w/o having an experienced female crew to man it. If anything, I would have expected the Navy to start putting female JO's (surface nukes and suppo's) on subs and then go from there.

Why do I have the feeling that this is just a non-binding "proposal" from a group that makes a lot of proposals, few of which are ever actually implemented?

Read it carefully - SecNav supports it, the POTUS supports it, and they refer to the one woman as the PCO! AND they have an implementation date...of next year.

I have no earthly idea how this would be done - but I guarantee ya if the Navy is hell-bent on avoiding that appearance before The Supremes, someone will push the agenda. Don't forget that CJCS is the former High Liberal of The Navy - "Mushmouth Mullen" (former CNO).

I am smelling a hoax. Searched nytimes website for this article, couldn't find it. Googled Commander Sarah Bentworth's name, came up with:

http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/apologia/printa...2609732&pid=25064252

Plus I can't find any "Bishop vs. the State of Connecticut" on google...besides...why would she be suing Connecticut?

Got suspicious when I read the Chief's comment near the bottom of the article about getting away from women...seemed a little to un-PC for NYtimes.

I just did a bit of research. Bridget Bishop was the name of the first woman to be given a "guilty" judgement in the Salem witch trials.

Also, Sue Winkle is Not on the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (so in no way the chairwoman). http://www.dtic.mil/dacowits/membrs_SubCom.html

Total trash Mack! Someone's messing with you. You can rest easy. Smile!

Gots another few

Katrina Van Tassle (ths supposed name of the second quoted commander) is the name of the main female character in Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Also, note the captions on the main photo. It's taken by Rev. Dusty Boats. Also, it says that the two people in the photo are commanders discussing changes in the Navy. Why is she not in uniform as well?

Oh and WAY down at the bottom, in the "Past Coverage" section, the last article it links to is "April Fool!"

Good simulation, though. Must have taken a bunch of time.

Now here's the mega question Mac. Did someone get you with this or were you just pulling our chains as one of those prize winners? I know you're more than capable of messing with us!

The only problem I see with pulling this joke is that soemone in DC might take it as a serious piece.....and try to make it happen. While I personally wouldn't have a problem with women on subs, they would need to be trained. That training is best done, amazingly enough, on a sub....and the ocean's grading curve can be very very steep.

Don't know if it's cause I'm feeling old , or the beer , or the spoof story . Pulling an all women boat crew outs their azz is something only DC would do and claim that they're looking out for the best interests of all concerned . Get em ribboned up to the point that they started believin they're untouchable then in an emergency if/when they tank due to lack of proper trainin the boys in DC give them something pretty posthumously and after a speech condemning the male/female split push for mixed crews . Don't think the boys in DC give a tinkers damn about learning curves that effect other people . Guess I'm a bit grumpy , Bottling Agent Orange ale this weekend Big Grin

OK, I was 'on travel' on 4/1/08. An old sub intel buddy of mine (he reviews movie scripts) and I cooked up this story and kept adding to it (names from Washington Irving and such - we thought that was pretty clever Big Grin ). Anyway, we chopped it through another old sub intel buddy (we all live in Texas) and he added a few things - then I got an AD 4-striper in Chinfo (I served with his Dad) to check for format and a few pictures. We decided to post it in some 'strategic locations'. When I returned we decided the Submarine Birthday would be a good time to post it here.

Now, ya gotta admit (or maybe you won't Wink ) that it spun up more than a few of you! Curse See, it is soooo close to what could be reality... Big Grin

Actually, the idea came from the old Fly Paper Report that we ginned up while bored out of our skulls on a patrol in '59. I've already shared that story. We kinda liked this effort.

This was funny, but it doesn't hold a candle to the goat on the boat. This was too close to what might happen!

Tell ya what - (since the "Queen Dork Fish" has designated me the 'big Punk') how about we gin up a movie script - kind of along the lines of Operation Petticoat? Now I think stumpx is the movie script writer, correct? So here's the deal - one of the principal authors of the article has already had a movie made about his son (and him, too). Dennis Quade played his son. He has all these great connections in H'wood - and he reviews scripts for those 'worthies' in LaLaLand. Maybe I could twist his arm a bit and see what he thinks.

The aforementioned "QDF" could be one of the COs and Cat the other (She's a real nuke, too). We could drag in Ski as the XO (hey, she's a paperwork person) and NWIP as the other XO. Now, we always seem to attract some 'winners' from time to time on these forums - we could sign them up as the PMS Division. (Replace Ops or something). Whattaya think?

Oh the possibilities of who the son could be that you are talking about. I could mention one or two but that would be disrespecting my elders Angel/Devil

Sure for the movie, when do we start negotiating our contracts?? lol

Where do I sign?

Adam got so shocked/angry reading that "news report"....it was funny. Hard for me to sit and watch knowing it was a hoax.

You had me going until I got to the Chiefs comments at the end. That's where I said NO WAY in H E double hockeysticks is this real. No Chief would be so career limiting as that to SAY something like that to the press. Now if you'd a deleted that part... Bingo... woulda been pure gold.
