Subject asks it all, can you volunteer to serve on a sub if color deficient? I tried searching, read all the colorblind threads and the FAQs so sorry if I missed this somewhere. Thanks. |

Don'tknow about the Nuke Navy but when I was on the Boats as long as you were not in the electronic field there was no problem.

Color blindness can disqualify you from most jobs in the Navy not just on subs. It all depends on the severity of the color defiency.

Back in the early 50's when my Dad was in he got DQ'ed for submarine duty because he cant see green. When I was in ET 'A' school 20 yrs ago we had a guy make it all the way to graduation and then tell everyone that he was color blind. Why they didnt catch it at the MEPS station is still a mystery. I think he got sent to QM school after that. Still kept his sub rating though.
