I realize this is finance related and there is a finance board, but I think I might get more knowledgeable answers here.

My husband graduated nuke school in November, in January all of his check ins here were done and he left for patrol shortly after. I don't know what exactly his LES should look like right now, but I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to look like this. (I actually haven't seen a normal LES since September due to moving, Jan raises and hitting the 2 year mark in February)

Basic pay: Right
BAH: Right
Sub pay: Right (Well if he is supposed to be getting it at the 2 year rate)

BAS: Shouldn't this go away whenever he is on patrol?

Career sea pay: I thought you had to have been on sea duty for a while before you got this.

FSH: Why is he getting FSH right now? Obviously the boat isn't my home so I'm not having to pay for another place to live right now. And well, he's not paying rent to live on the boat either.

FSA: Non existent.

Nuke pay: Non existent.

I guess what I want to know is what should be on the LES? For when he is in and for when he is out?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Career sea pay: I thought you had to have been on sea duty for a while before you got this. his sea time started the day he checked into the command. It starts at the lowest amount & he gets it the entire time he is at a Sea command whether they are at Sea or at home.

Family Separation of $250 per month after he has been gone longer than 30 days due to schooling, TAD, TDY or deployment. This has nothing to do with housing, that is separate and is called BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing). That is paid out if you do not live in housing or live in PPV housing.

FSA: Non existent.

Nuke pay: Non existent.

He won't be getting FSA until he has been gone over a certain amount of time. It used to be thirty days, that may have changed. We never got it until our return to port, and then it made for a good time during standown (Disney, anyone?).

Nuke pay he should be getting, but that paperwork may not have cleared prior to departure. Keep the LES, put little notes with questions on them, and handle it when he gets back. They really aren't out to rob you...they just process a LOT of paperwork during check in, and some will inevitably fall through the cracks.

If this is posing a financial issue....try Navy Relief

Thanks for the help.

I do have another question though, why would family separation allowance be showing up as family separation housing? It's also not in an increment of $250.

Here I sit waiting for the month they decide to deduct the entire paycheck Wink

It's not really a problem since we pretty much still live off of E-3 pay, and I work too. It's just annoying trying to figure out if we owe them more then they owe us. And that he and I haven't had any idea what we should be getting since September

The acronym for Family seperation allowance is FSH. You may have gotten a prorated amount based on when he actually left, which would explain differences

Ditto to what PO1 said. Mark off what is wrong and keep track. He should be getting ProPay and the correct subpay. I think every boat pays FSH differently. I liked the when you get home method too.

DH can fix his pay when he gets back. He needs to learn what he should be getting paid. Pay is ALWAYS something service members should be proactive about.

Like the new pic PO1!!!!!

If he has been gone longer than 30 days and they by chance pulled into port then the paperwork easily could have been filed for the FSH to show up. It is $250 per month, but it will be prorated so if he has gone 45 days, it will be $250 + $125 for $375.

like Catherine says write down questions and he can clear them up with his YN when he gets back. You won't be able to do anything unless he left with you a POA (Power of Attorney) specific for PSD (personnel). If you have any questionable pay just bank it and that way you are prepared if it has to be paid back. I have to say that in all the years my dh was on a Sub the pay was never the same each month. With the different pays & deductions it always varied.

Ok I guess the only thing wrong is nuke pay. Which I figured just had something to do with lost paper work.

We pretty much had all of the pays he should be getting figured out before. But a lot of them were listed as it's either this or this. And I had to wait for this les to figure out which number it was supposed to be.

Speaking of Disney, I should find out what date dh's Aunt settled on taking the little cousins there. Spending time with a 6 year old is a perfectly good excuse to go on the tea cup rides Smile

Glad it made sense for you.

For Disney tickets, check out the base ITT office, you will get discounted ones there and often they are a very good deal. If you are going with family you can buy it for them as well. Each base has a MWR run Ticket office that sells tickets for local & national attractions plus sometimes hotels, movie theaters, etc...

Also...in addition to ITT...check out the disney website. They often run specials. And, in case you don't have a cousin with a four bedroom house living 12 miles from the gate...there is a military only hotel around there somewhere. I believe you will need reservations....but you have time, right?

Shades of green. best bet for tickets too, as MWRs tend to run out of them.

I usually stay the the Boardwalk (one of the closest resorts to EPOCT-within walking distance) and drive over and buy my tickets from shades of green. They have standard military passes that MWRs have and then special ones for those in the military and staying on Disney resort property.

You could also rent a camper and stay in the campgrounds. They are really nice, you can enter the park early, and eating at the camper gives you some time to relax after dealing with the crowds....not to mention, food you bring is a LOT cheaper than food provided by the mouse's minions.

If we had discovered dh was being paid in Disney dollars the sharp change of topic would make more sense.

I found out the cousins are going to be down here before the boat gets back. So no seeing the mouse with cute kids for me.

Since we didn’t have any plans yet for the 2 weeks of stand down I’ll try to talk dh into going at some point then. Well unless they set the date in July, then I might have to wait until Christmas to go. Dh nearly getting heat stroke is something I’d rather not repeat when it’s my first time at Disney.

I’ve heard good things about Shades of Green before so I’ll probably wind up going with them. Besides where else in Orlando could you get a decent room for 90 bucks a night?

With SOG it can be very difficult to get reservations now for the Christmas holidays. There is some Disney Resorts that they can refer you to for the same price if they don't have anything available. There is also places out in town that are reasonable. Now you do know that being AD, he gets 1 free entry into SeaWorld or any Busch theme park along with 3 dependents for free each year? It is called Salute to the Heroes and it is really good.

now with the discounted tickets at SOG you can actually get them cheaper at the ITT office. The one in Mayport has very good deals on them, along with other places. They might also have deals for hotels too. Mayport also has a really nice Navy Lodge if you want to get away for a weekend, right on the beach.

Could be worse... you could be stationed in Europe right now... with the dollar constantly sinking... It's around 1.60 to the euro now... Killing tourism to Europe, but generating a lot of tourists to the US to buy cheap dollar denominated Ipods and such.

Sucks to have to travel on business there now though... Freakin beer is like 10 bucks. I may have to... shock of shocks... stop drinkin... say it ain't so...

Yup, I knew about the free Busch tickets. We went to the park in Tampa last year. Ironically enough now that we live 3 hours closer to Tampa, we will probably go to the park in Virginia if we wind up doing one of the Busch parks this year.
I probably should have thought about that before since we had already requested Kings Bay and figured we were getting it since no one else in dh’s class wanted to move here. But I don’t always claim to be the brightest crayon in the box.

Thanks for the tip on the Navy Lodge. It hadn’t even occurred to me to check things out there.

And despite the sinking value of the dollar they keep lowering interest rates...ugh.

I find it interesting too that the value of gold dropped so much in the last week.

Well on the plus side, I spent the last week at a conference and several of the topics were that the current ForEx rate has been VERY VERY beneficial to US manufacturers. I talked to probably a dozen or so suppliers, and ALL of them are either being hit up for taking work from European companies, or are in the process of ramping up (looking at CapEx and rates on return etc). It was fascinating.

yup. a weak dollar does have the benefit of reversing the trade defecit...... I find it amazing how the economy has a tendency to fix itself.

I think the gold thing was investors initially knee jerking and dumping money into it, as well as other commodities. There's a theory that the per-barrel oil cost is partly due to investors driving the cost up by dumping money into that market.
