Submarine Frequently Asked Questions
I found this FAQ about subs. It seems quite thorough. Suggestion to moderator: Put this as a locked item for newbies to look at and get a bunch of their questions answered.

Another Sub FAQ

I've seen this site before. Good thing though, otherwise I would have probably annoyed everyone with more questions Razz

How do you get rid of trash or waste on a submarine?

I've had this in my cookbook research file for quite awhile. Note the last line of the first paragraph. Suspect that even with the added word, "operational," might need update?
I've painstakenly counted those individual sub listings on Internet and have been unable to verify "most"

This one got me to chuckle:
"The air is cleaner than the air outside, and many submariners notice the strong smell of the ocean when the hatch is opened after a long time."

BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH... yea... boat smell... My ex wouldn't let me bring my seabag in the house after a patrol. Had to leave all that junk in the garage.

Opinions, Please: Last line of first paragraph reads:

The country with the largest number of submarines is Russia.
=-----------------
Note that there is no reference to whether these subs are active or non-operational. A while back, I painstakenly counted Russian subs, including those probably not operational.
Just couldn't come up with Russia having more subs than any other country.

What do you think?

Thanks

My seabag always rode home strapped to the roof...it wasn't even allowed in the car...

But the air certainly was "fresh" wasn't it?

After the breakup of the Soviet Union, the Russian navy was really strapped fo cash and a lot of the old submarine fleet went non-operational and now sits rusting and sunk at the piers, however they are still maintaining their Typhoon and Delta IV boomers, their Oscar's, their Akula's and possibly their Sierra III's. How much operating time they're actually getting I haven't seen reference to. Whisper

I wonder if they'd sell us an Akula cheaper than EB/NNS would build us one?

You have to admit, the training value would be terrific!

Having an Akula would really be great. Not just for training and evaluation, I would love to take a tour thru one of those. And the Russians are prone to selling everything else, why not an Akula. Big Grin

I hate to jump in on this, but I was an MS2(SS) when I was in the service, 70'0 to 80's and everyone keeps asking me what the CS rating is about on subs and if they handle wardroom duties like I used to do?
Please contact me at sbailey@risd.edu if someone can answer this question for me, please.
It's been awhile since I've been on any boat, I was on the Thomas Jefferson and the Boston.
Thanks.

Huh? Shows 358 posts. Am I missing something?

Kline: Please try to send me a personal message. Have a question to ask you. This forum notorious for NOT forwarding e-mails.

Thanks,
