You can still 'have it all'- just have HALF
Picture of TheWifey

This question is for active duty and their spouses alone...

Question:
Do you currently have a Wingman Card in your possession with current emergency contact information/phone numbers listed?

Please feel free to add your comments at will.

Thanks.

Choices:
A "Wingman" WHAT??? What the heck is that?!
Yep...I have one...not sure my spouse does, though.
I had one in prior years/assignments...no such thing where I am stationed now.

The AF still has those things? Thought it was one of those force-fed Foglesong programs that went away when he did.

Pass it over Big Duke, I need some TP.... Big Grin

Indeed we do. I have a whole stack the First Shirt gave me because I kept throwing them away.

Yeah, but better explained with personal experience as to why I think they are important. That's an email I need to craft this week to leadership and easier that I carve it out of that (especially at 1 AM).

I'll upload an example of one after I edit it to give you an idea in a few minutes.

The top right is where the unit patch lives - obviously I have taken out personal information on this one. Each unit would/should tailor these based on their own emergency contact numbers/troops.

These are (CAN be) printed on standard business card stock:

I think the problem most people have with them is the name. Wingman card sounds like you are a huge fighter pilot wanna-be. Calling yourself a wingman might be cool to guys flying planes with pointy noses, but for the rest of us it sounds like you are still stuck in "top gun" mode from your childhood. They could definately come up with a better name. The cards should definately be required.

What base are you at that did away with AADD? I thought that was a mandated program.

wingman cards are a waste of time and paper. I have never had to call the shirt or commander. as long as a person knows their supervisor/NCOIC number thats all they need unless you are the NCOIC of a shop. now at our base we have tons more cards that they want us to carry one being the air force creed. LAME!!!

The fact that it came from a washed up 4-Star who thought his NCO's, SNCO's anc CGO's couldn't handle their business is what bothers me. Any NCO that doesn't have his troops on speed dial, and their own supervisor/NCOIC on speed dial doesn't need the stripes in their sleeves.

Micro-management at its worst. Roll Eyes

We're at Maxwell right now for ACSC, so all I have seen is my husband's class recall roster!
I usually pull up the base website wherever we move and get a list of all the necessary phone numbers.
Thanks for the info, though.

One of my DH's additional duties was to create one and keep it updated. That was in a different office and a different CC. Dunno if he has one anymore.

seymour-johnson. we were leading acc and the af with the most dui's, then our new commander decided to change some things, and got rid of aadd, now there's supposed to be a taxi service, honestly it worked, if you can get your hands on the stats, we're below average! haha!

the last commander had a program where if we went 30 days, without a dui, we would get a day off, out of the year and a half that program was there, it made it to 24 days one time. most of the time it was reset once a weekend sometimes two times a week. and if you're the person who got the dui, you were responsible for changing those signs daily. i believe it was the wing cv duties to see to it that the person was changing those signs. needless to say, our current wing cc got rid of that program and had the signs removed.

yeah moody still has the signs which breaks it down to what squadron got them. the base almost got a day off after 100 days than bam couple DUI's. I think the airman who got those were never seen again...There is also a program called sober ride, leadership gets ticked off that folks abuse sober ride so they try to get drivers to keep track of people that use the service and than try to incriminate them and throw the core values around and how you need another plan than sober ride even though its a volunteer service. if people didnt like it than they didnt need to drive.

I personally do think they are important for my own reasons (which I'll explain), but I would really appreciate more of your stories and also if you would take the time to answer the poll, that would be helpful.

Thanks much!

HT, if you can see beyond the originator (I'm an F survivor too), can't you think of any good those "silly" cards can possibly do?
