My husband is on a 6 year contract, and I wanted to know how long he would have to wait to cross train into SERE? Say he gets out of Tech and doesn't like his job can he cross train into it after say a year or two or does he have to wait till it is time to re-enlist? Also do SERE instructors get to spend a lot of time at home or are they gone a lot?

Yes he has thought about it and yea we know its like 5 months long. We still have to do a lot of research on it but just wanted and idea of when he would be able to cross train and how it was for the family.

He should be able to Xtrain about halfway through his enlistment. Once he is at his base have him talk to the Career Assistance Advisor who can let him in on the latest poop. Have your man check out the SERE thread under special ops forum here on mil.com
