I'm taking the AFOQT this Tuesday and I'm a little nervous. I've done some studying. I'm just curious how big of a factor the AFOQT is when it comes to being selected for OTS. I know it is important.

You can not do all the good the world needs, but the world needs all the good you can do.

Well.....there is a section in the computer where we have to enter your AFOQT scores on....and it is on the application cover letter....and it is mentioned on the rating officers interview....so if you really did SOME studing....I would consider doing some more.

You want to do your very best, of course and what good is OTS if you get a crappy job afterwards because you did crappy on the AFOQT. Have put hundreds of officers in the AF......there is a difference between the ones who get INTEL and the ones who we really do not know what they do.....

Good luck. Do your best.

The AFOQT is a funny creature.
A passing score is 15. If you can't score a 15 after two attempts, you can apply to get a waiver.

Yes, this our distinguished officer corps.

The minimum passing score only determines if you are able to apply or not. If you scores are that low you are not going to be selected. Your recruiter or Commander (if you are active duty) will not endorse an officer package with those scores.

To be able to apply for a waiver to take the AFOQT a third time you need to show that you have recent academic/job (i.e., private pilot, additional college education, etc) achievement that is relevant to the subjects tested in the AFOQT.

In addition to the AFOQT, there are several other aspects taken in consideration like: GPA, EPRs, Letters of Recommendation, community service, etc.

If you have to apply for a waiver on an AFOQT, you're wasting your time. I know this thread is old, but the snideness of BillyBob needs to be addressed. The program is too competitive, and if you don't possess some special qualifications, like a Cat.I, II, or III education, you won't get accepted, if you're not scoring at least 60% across the board.
OTS and ROTC candidates are competing with USAFA personnel for some key spots. USAFA students receive a 99 on all scores.
There's nothing simple about it, nor is your ability to do what they do.

While this may be true for OTS, you can get into AFROTC with low AFOQT scores.

So the comment about our officer corps isn't complely false. Misleading maybe, but not false.

I've seen the waiver used in ROTC, but always for someone who's first language wasnt english and they did poorly on the verbal section.

And in ROTC, all that matters is you pass your AFOQT. As far as getting a job is concerned, your degree and commanders ranking matter a hell of a lot more.

I wonder how the OP did on the AFOQT last August. This was his only post under that name on the mil.com forums.

From what I understand, this is for ROTC only. Those applying for a direct commission have different requirements, based on Rate/Non Rated boards. It is definately not a 15.
