Please don't take this as a flame or anything. I am just curious. From the posts I have read, some people seem to get all worked up over language. While I know I am going to hear the professional image speech, this is a Air Force related forum isn't it? Is it not a military in general website? Even potential recruits that come here looking for answers are sadly mistaking that they will not hear profanity once they are in. Heck, they will hear it from the get go at BMT. Don't get me wrong, I don't throw random f bombs out in public just for the fun of it, but when talking to my peers (like on here) it just may happen. I am just curious as to how AF related this forum is or is it more of a politically correct forum?
I think (For what it is worth...) that many here feel that they can say anything they want simply because it is a bland and relatively anonymous way to run off at the mouth. It is not an official site by any means, and represnets a way to either blow off steam or waste time (Whether at work or at home...). Some come here for info and entertainment, others to wave their virtual middle finger at their fellow posters.
1364, If you're asking if expletives are loose and free on this Forum, the answer is no. There might be a few, throwing out some words, the MODS monitor profanity, if that's what you mean by language.
The big difference for me is when you speak, things happen faster. You are saying things as they come to your mind. Emotion can overtake common sense when speaking. Especially when in a heated discussion.
When typing, there is a pause between what you are thinking and what is currently being typed. There is also a chance to review what you have written and take some of the emotion out of what you are writing. I always re-read what I have typed, and often times am able to make a more appropriate response.
As for editing out profanities, this is a public forum that anybody can join and/or review. I think the TOS requires a member to be 13 or older. That's great for young people who may be interested in a military career. They can come here and get info, ask questions, etc. I don't think those same young people need to listen to us cussing about things or bragging about sexual exploits. Or worse, being exposed to "virtual sex". Sure, they hear worse at school, maybe at home, but I support the professional, clean image of these forums. They will get cussed out at basic, but not here.
Having said that, everyone here knows how to slip one past the censors by replacing key letters with a symbol or subs***ute letter. I'm guilty of that myself. But that's better than blatantly using vulgarity when it's not necesary.
