If you take too many classes in a year, you will run out of TA. Also, when you start your masters, you will see that TA doesn't pay enough and you have to use your GI Bill to "top up".

There is a new GI bill that is going into effect much of how you get payed using it will depend on which GI bill you end falling under once you seperate.

Using top-up really is a waste of your Mont GI Bill. If you can avoid it, do so at all costs.

You can go here to find out about the new one just signed into office.

The MGIB pays you m**thly based ** the number of credit **urs you are attempting in that m**th. It has no relati** to **w much your tuiti** costs. The new GIB which goes into effect in Aug 2009 will pay more in most cases.

There are many sites and boards posting informati** about it but until it is ** the VA website (http://www.gibill.va.gov) I would not take much stock in what is claimed.

I got to edit my previous response... I was about to praise that link, but I didn't find anything there that answered my question about dependents being able to use your GI Bill? Anybody find that one?

I hate it when they don't put short n sweet answers anywhere.

I got both of my under grad degrees using my GI Bill. Please, please go full time other wise you essentially waste your months of usage. Don't forget that you can also claim either Hope Credit or Lifetime Learning Credit on your taxes.

The GI Bill was the best thing I ever did for myself. I graduated with no school debt whatsoever.

From the news link on the site.

- To transfer to children, the service member would need to serve 10 years before transferring.

The GI Bill doesnt' pay for families, although the AF, maybe the other branches, tried a few selected career fields and allowed their spouses and families to use it on a trial basis.

But now we have this new GI Bill Approval and there is lots of talk about new allowances and such, but I have not seen anything formal as to what those are going to be. Its good anyway you look at it, but if I was you, I would call an education office at a base and ask them as they are probably trying to stay up to speed as much as possible.
