I have applied for a few USAF civil service positions since retiring from the AD AF. I've been interviewed for at least one of the positions. That was 3 weeks ago. I called AFPC and was told there was a tentative selection but that I wouldn't find out if it was me for at least 30-60 days since that is how long it takes the AF to process the selectee. Is this normal? Does the hiring authority normally notify the person right away, so they don't take another job? Is there a regulation that prohibits the hiring authority from contacting the person before AFPC has done its vetting?

If you got the job youu should have been notified. When I conducted interviews I normally had a decision within a couple of days and make notification within 14 days.

Things may have change since 2004.

Thanks for your response! AFPC has informed me that even if the hiring authority has made a selection, AFPC will check to see if there is a priority placement candidate, and that is why the hiring authority can not notify the selectee until the PPP process is complete. They say it can take 30-60 days...is this what others have experienced?

A long time ago government recruiting and hiring revolved around the Office of Personnel and Management. Since then staffing has become fragmented with these decisions made in local offices compared to a central agency for that purpose.

One regional district's time frame could differ greatly from another. Hang in there and good luck.

Hi, I recently got hired for civil service at a base out in CA. I can tell you the whole process from submitting my application, to getting the job offer, to my first day of work, took about 9 months. For some of the guys in my shop, it took about 4-6 months. Just depends on how busy they are. Hope this helps

Many thanks for all the input and feedback! I just received a tentative job offer from the USAF this week so I'm absolutely thrilled. I applied for this position in late Sep 09 and interviewed in Oct. I think it is a real blessing I didn't have to wait as long...Happy Thanksgiving!
