This is the pullover that requires you to wear a nametag. Been to three bases, clothing sales doesn't have it nor are they able to order it. AAFES doesn't list it online either, nor could I find one in a 10 minute google search...Which leads me to believe there's a reason...
1. Has anyone heard if this is going to get phased out anytime soon?
Not getting phased out at all. Until September of this year, they probably hardly sold them, so no back stock. Now it is fall and everyone wants one since they have to wear blues now. Demand is high and will take a while to catch up.
As for the looks, yes you do look like a Battle Star Galactica character, but it is better than looking like Mr. Rogers in the cardigan.
I have also noticed that most of the folks wearing either sweater are not wearing a name tag at all. Shame shame shame. If you want to wear it to hide your gut, at least wear it correctly. (Not directed at origional poster)
Stop laughing. They introduced the sweater variants due to the energy crisis years ago. Every base turned down the thermostat in the workplace and it was somewhat uncomfortable. So yes, we need the sweater.
My clothing sales said they have NEVER stocked it.
My shop is pretty strict with the blues...They want you to use a quarter can of starch and spend 20mins ironing the shirt and "strongly recommend" dry cleaning. There's also tough with ribbons and placement. If you wear the sweater over an ironed shirt for a while and take off the sweater, your shirt will look like crap. Therefore you really only need to iron the collar of your blue shirt. Call me a lazy dirt bag, I couldn't care less...
I personally like the style, I've been wearing a V-Neck sweater over a button down with tie for a few years now...
Sounds like you need to show the leadership of your squadron a copy of 36-2903. The standards for the blue shirt don't include it standing at attention by itself. Also, last I checked, ribbons are still optional.

Yes, ideally, but we were told we to adhere to the "Wing Memo of uniformity"...It's unfortunate but for us any kind superior "correction" equals: "before you leave today, give the shop floor a really good sweep and take out everyone's trash"...
I was able to find one from a friend at another base...
So I ran across this thread trying to figure out my dilemma. Is the nametag on the pullover sweater supposed to be the blue nametag from your blues or the silver nametag from your service dress? I just can't figure it out. I don't think i've worn the damn thing since they came out with the silver nametag
yeah... I agree... they look ridiculous... but so does the PT gear and their proposed but now on hold servcie dress uniform, so the air force has a pretty good track record of making us look silly.
Negative. You don't wear the metallic name tags anymore.
