I'm sure a lot of you remember the fiasco with the Together We Served forums and the claims of OPSEC and other sensitive information violations. That's why I left my profile here blank and then even made it private. What sparked this thought was that in the profile I even saw that it prompted me for my security clearance level. I know that a lot of you have your profile full of good info and this is my friendly reminder that it might cause you more grief than anything. Not just you, but the site owners as well.

Good point! Let's alert Administration and advise them putting that request in the profile is not a good idea, or even necessary. Someone could unintentionally fill it in, revealing potential abilities by their Security Level.

I think it may have to do with the fact that this website is operated by a for-profit company.

Yep, the site is run by monster.com. Supposedly, by filling in all that information it can speed up any job searches you try on monster.

I smell a rat...

I think it has something to do with this site being run by Monster.com and clearances go hand in hand with jobs one might be looking for.

I don't know if they will do anything, because we do have the option to not answer that question.

I got spoken to about OPSEC already...name changed on the profile that day.

I doubt the security clearance issue is a problem, as it is, in fact, for advertising purposes (jobs and schools that fund this site), but there is NEVER a good reason to put that type of information on a public domain/public access site.

If it ain't a .mil, and it doesn't require a CAC login, then the level of my clearance is "NUNYA" (bidness)

However, I can say this publicly:

One time...at band camp............... Wink

I don't mind the profile up here. If you are worried about capture and them using the info from here, you are dreaming if you don't think they can find that and more on the WWW. For example I was in a picture that the Air Force website used a bunch of years ago. It will still come up with minimal searching telling the job I do and what my rank was etc... I don't take silly chances though, and do make my profile private any time I am deployed.

I vote for "NUNYA" - there is nothing to be gained yet you voluntarily assume the risk.

No doubt. I was just warning those that might not be thinking of the knee jerk reaction that would likely occur if a bored Major came across stuff like that in profiles here. Big Grin

I also remind myself that the AF allows people in that make as low as a 36 on the ASVAB. You really have to remind those folks of the simplest stuff.

I didn't post a pic of an SP cruiser that had become one with an F-15, did I?

Nope, it was at Eglin. I don't recall the year, but it was before 2001. Not much before, as the cop car was a late-model Lumina.

FYI

Dropped Cell Phone Disables Front-line Fighter (January 30, 2000)

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. An Air Force F-15 fighter was damaged when a security guard crashed his patrol car into the parked plane, causing $62,000 in damage.

How did the driver manage not to see the $39 million jet fighter? Was it fog? Darkness? Medical incapacitation? No.... He was fumbling on the floor of the car for his cell phone.

The car was totaled, and the driver, Airman Raymone Sydnor, received a concussion, according to an Air Force report released Wednesday. The report did not say how fast the car was going.

The airman will get an as yet undisclosed punishment.

In the future, the Air Force said, security personnel have been ordered to get out of their cars every halfhour for a 10 minute break ``to combat boredom and oxygenate blood flow

That is a better PA answer than the rumor of (driver getting some oral stimulation) that I've heard on more than on occasion.
