Any of you old 37th Trans Group guys around? I was in the 37th from 63-66. Started out in the 77th Trans Company, 106th Bn in Larochelle France. We had the old M52 5 ton gasers.
I was only in France for 5 months, then the complete 37th started to pull out, and head to Germany. The 106th Bn went to Bremerhaven, and the 77th went to Kassel Germany. Looking back, I am still not sure which was the better place.
In Kassel, our mission was hauling cargo from Bremerhaven to Giessen. About 1 year after arriving in Kassel, we turned in our M52 5 tons, and were issued IHC cab over civilian trucks. Sure made life easier. I was a Mechanic / Wrecker Driver, and loved running the Autobahn. I was promoted to E5 after in Kassel for a year, then assigned to our sister company the 598th Trans, also at Kassel.
I was in Kassel till mid 66, when I PCSed to Ft Lewis Wa, where I stayed for 4 months, then headed to Nam.
I was in the 66th Trans from may of 85 to December of 85 in Kaiserslautern...then I went to drive for the CSM of 37th Trans (CSM Orr) then the Group Commander (Col Yamachika)Sure do miss those times
Dang, Bremerhaven has been closed for a long time. I was with 28th Trans, 377th Trans (Heavy Truck)in Mannheim. I know life sure sucked goinf 37mph! Made for some seriously long days, and convoys. Had a blast though.
Where are all the other 37th Trans guys? I got a email from my CO from the 77th in France. He has a bunch of slides he is going to send me to digitize, and put n my web page. Looking forward to that.
Another little tid bit, whan I was in France and Germany the 1st time, was in the 106th Trans Bn. They are here at Ft Campbell now, and I am going to drop by next month during the "Week of The Eagles". Be interesting to see what they are up to now.
