Let's say you have some LHS's, HMMWV's, MTV's, 10K ATLAS's, and absolutely nothing else. You're starting a motor pool from scratch and getting ready for deployment. You funding is virtually limitless. What do you put on your wish list for things you would need during a deployment to a remote area?
Certainly some one out there has wished they'd had something on a deployment that they didn't have, or maybe you had something pretty cool that most units wouldn't normally have.
When I went to Iraq... I would have loved to have had more LMTV's, MTV's and HUMMWV's with armor and A/C - Fewer "deuce and a halfs" and "5 tons" that were rebuilds from Vietnam.
HMMT's (Hemmits) were versatile and in short supply in the unit I served in. Having the crane on board to offload was a major time saver.
Also, equipping units with an additional forklift would help greatly. We had major maintenance problems with the only forklift available in my battalion. When it worked, it was in constant demand.
Gators or ATV's were something we never had enough of. The few we had were stolen from the Air Force. They were very useful.
