I'm prior service Air Force looking at going back to AD with the Army. My AFSC while in the Air Force was 2T251. According to the Army conversion charts, the equivilant MOS is 88N. After reading the description, it seems as though they are fairly similar. The obvious exception being the level of interaction with aircraft.
My questions are...am I accurate to assume they are similar. What bases are popular for this career field? With Air Trans, it was usually somewhere on the cost, where cargo entered and exited the country. Would I have to attend AIT after WTC?
I see the post is a little late, but I'm assuming you did not get an anwser yet. I was in the same position your in, I was a transporter in the Marines, and crossed over into the Army. I did not have to attend AIT after going into the Army, BUT!!!! I went to AIT on Ft Eustis, and even though I went with the Marines I completed the U.S. Army School of Transportation, I'm not sure about what kind of schooling you had in the Air Force. As far as duty assignments, thats basicly the needs of the Army. They offered me Texas, and Germany(I went to Texas)but I reenlisted for Ft Lewis Wa and got it without a problem. I'm sorry thats about as much detail I can go into, if you have more questions feel free to ask
This is probably really really late but I'd figure I'd try to give you a word of advice anyways. If you enjoyed your job in the air force as a 2t2 you will hate your job in the army! I was also a 2t2 in the airforce and switched over to the army about two years ago. I loved working on the airfield doing the job in the airforce for almost five years, so when I came into the army I was optimistic and very motivated. I have now spent almost two years in the army and have not done my job once. So if you are still thinkin about it, let me warn you...you will do nothing but office details and useless, endless training. Hope I could help.
