I'm enlisting, and have a list of desired MOS's I'm taking to MEPS with me.
One of which is 88N (Transportation Management Coordinator). What is the MOS like? I keep reading it's a seldom chosen MOS....with an already AD Army husband and children....would an 88N MOS choice be wise??? Does it deploy alot and what posts do they go to? (Husband is 11B so able to go about anywhere I might go, thankfully.) |

MOS's don't deploy, units do, so it depends on where you get assigned. 88N's are all the way down to Battalion-level in combat units, or as high up the chain as Corps-level Transportation units, so it could go either way as far as deploying. Most of the operational Army (deployable units) is averaging one every other year, two years if they're lucky, sometimes less.
I would say you can go almost anywhere as an 88N, but if you're going AD and he's 11B, (and you get assigned near each other under the Army Married Couples Program) count on going somewhere in the South or Southeast with the word "Fort" in it, but maybe Ft. Lewis, Germany or Korea. Your assignment managers will do their best to get you within 50 miles of each other on assignments, and at least neither of you will have a ridiculously rare MOS with limited assignments, should be able to get to the same post at least, if not the same unit. |

Well I believe I've decided I want to pick 88N....if there's spots open I mean. I read the In/Out Call list and it says NO on InCall and YES on OutCall. Does that mean it's overmanned?!
If it is, does that mean I won't be let in and there won't be any Enlistment Bonus? If I do go 88N, once I'm out of AIT can we be put at a new Duty Station if we both ask for it...as in, can we NOT come back to his current post when I'm done?! We would LOVE to get Korea or Germany, could we both "volunteer" for that and PCS when I get done with AIT? He's in a "fenced unit" so would that mean we HAD to come back here? |

NO on InCall and Yes on OutCall does mean it's overmanned, but doesn't necessarily mean there won't be accessions for the MOS.
In/Out calls are mainly used to manage reclassification, although they're related to the MOS's strength levels. Here's a sample 4187 for Married Army Couples. For the specifics, check Section IV (starts at para 5-20) in AR 614-200. There are a lot of qualifications and exceptions, but the basic intent is to get you both assigned within 50 miles of each other at the most. It's not a guarantee, the Army has to consider factors like your reenlistment status, time available before ETS, time at your current duty station, and the availability of assignments for both of your MOS's at your pay grades. You won't be assigned to each other's rating chain either (which shouldn't be a problem with 11B and 88N, especially since female Soldiers can't be legally assigned to combat arms units below Brigade level.) Read through that chapter, there are tons of variables, although for the most part the Army does try to arrange assignments to meet the intent of the program. You may not get your initial assignment together, but might get it caught up on the next one. It'll take some coordination with your branch assignments manager too, they'll need to know you're in the program when you request reassignment. |

WOW that was VERY helpful!
Thank you so much, it told me ALL I wanted to know! **I was looking at the wrong line on the In/Out Call for 88N....It's a YES on In and a NO on Out!! So maybe they'll have plenty of spots for me!** |
