Im on DEP right now because I still need to pass the GED test next week. I got a 70 on the ASVAB. I originially wanted a helicopter mechanic job because I want to make a career out of the Army and become a Helo pilot and thought that would be a good MOS to prepare me for it. But when I went to MEPS they told me that they were not letting anyone into Aviation jobs at the moment. So I chose 92Y for 3 years because it will let me have more free-time for schooling so I can get a degree and become a WO.
My question is, does 92Y get signing bonuses? My counselor said I couldnt get one because I dont have a diploma but can I get one the next time I go back with a GED?
depends on how much time you've been in the army. i have a supply clerk who has been in the army 2 years and still wasn't eligible for a bonus. she will be six months from now. 92y is a critical skill and is eligible for a bonus. the size of the bonus also depends on how much time you re up for. you'll get $8000 if you reup for two more years...and alot more if you re up for six years.
92Y is one of those MOS's that has a sign on bonus from time to time. You have to have good timing or monitor the enlistment bonus lists as they come out. There are quick ship bonuses and other incentives that you could probably get. If and when you join please take advantage of the mgibill. Also, if you don't qualify for a bonus I suggest enlisting for the minimum amount of time and taking advantage of a reenlistment bonus if you choose to stay in. I would also highly recommend that you try and complete some schooling while you are in because you can get 100% tuition.
