This isn't the most popular forum in the world, but I thought I'd give it a shot anyway. I've been chosen to head up the motorpool for a brand new company. We're so new we have no vehicles, tools, generators, not even a guidon. I'm trying to get as much of a headstart as I can. I'm a Specialist, so things like starting a PLL are very new to me. Here is a list of vehicles we'll be getting:
M1165A1 - 1 ea M1152A1 - 5 ea M1077A1 - 24 ea M1083 - 2 ea M984 - 1 ea 10K ATLAS - 4 ea M1076 - 4 ea M1095 - 1 ea M1101 - 1 ea M1120 - 4 ea Floodlight set - 9 ea 5kw gen - 9 3kw gen - 4 ea Army Space Heater - 1 ea Any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated. |

Is there another unit, with the same TO&E, anywhere near you? If so, go to them and get a copy of theirs.

wifi, gumby has an excellent idea, you can also look in the -24p and find a list of service parts for those vehicles. Just remember that you have to limit it to a total of 150 lines. That is unless you can get your chain of command to authorize more. I noticed that you listed M1076 and M1077 but no M1074/1075. How are you supposed to tow the M1076's and or load the M1077's?

Wow,
How things have change over the years...Now way back when. When a unit started up, it had a MTOE and though that MTOE came your PLL. To make a long story short, you should (or should I say, it use to be) get your PLL issue to you through the logistics channels. After all everything is automated now right? Not like when I did it with a pencil and a 2765 or 2765-1 and I do believe (could be wrong) the PLL card was a 3318 (for some reason that number sticks to my head). Anyhow, I do believe you should get your first PLL issue to you (unit), check with your S-4 or DMMC or now, your higher logistics chain. Plus the S-4 should have what your PLL stockage is suppose to be... |

Thanks for all the responses.
I was told today that it's up to me what goes in our PLL, so it seems like I have quite an adventure ahead of me. Maybe my higher ups have never dealt with maintenance and know about as much as me. TO&E's, MTOE's, -24Ps, S-4, someone on another site mentioned TACOM LAR (whatever that is)...... this should be very very interesting. Maybe the M1120s will be pulling the 1076's. At least that's what an Army buddy of mine guessed. But then he added "Is there a reason for having so many flatracks (M1077) when each complete M1120 + M1076 syatem can only carry a total of 2? ". So , yeah, my unit seems to be going through some growing pains. What's life without a little drama to make things fun? |

TACOM would be a good spot to go to for a first time start up.
Or find a sister unit and go off their PLL. Sorry to hear about that, like I said, the Army has change since my time (PLL clerk) back in the early 70's). Plus I never started up a PLL from start. Thank goodness. I started as a TAMMS clerk, then PLL clerk, then a BN PLL supervisor, then Supply Sgt, then Warrant, also work a DX in Panama. But if it were me in your shoes, I would travel at least two roads, One TACOM the other tried and find a sister unit to stock my PLL. of course both at the same time, its check to see if you can chew and talk at the same time..hahahahahaha... Good Luck in your adventure...Now think of the experience you will get out of this, i.e. starting up your own business... |

Thats what I thought too. There is supposed to be some sort of "template" for each MTOE. You start ordering stuff, the template modifies. |

Wow 2765-1, 3318 takes me back a few years. I retired as a 63b maint nco in 02 and then the ULLS gathered demands and generated a pll list.

SAMS does the same thing. The only problem is you need demands in order to generate PLL, so starting a motor pool from scratch is/was a nightmare. Thankfully I've gotten through it just in time for an E-5 to come in and reap the rewards of my hard work (I'm still E-4, too busy getting this motor pool up and running to study for the board.... next month though!)

Yeah I had to do the same, we cam back from deployment and we had virtually no vics, and have gone from a CSE Engineer unit to a ESC. our BN said we are only authorized 20 lines on our PLL, so I figured since Im in garrison go with the basics. Generators, Starters, Batteries, Headlamps, Brake shoes, ect... just the basics. When we deployed they gave us a Dell 600 Laptop and put Sams on it and said here ya go, we had to manually put in everything and learn the system from just everyday use. It took awhile but I got the hang of it real well.

I went kind of overboard with our PLL because I was told no limit. So we have about a 200-line PLL. That's wonderful in that you usually have the part on hand that you need. However it has been a logistics nightmare finding space to store it all. First we started out with just a pile-up in our ISU since we had no shelves, cabinets, bins etc. It was like this for months. I told my command from the beginning we need some sort of set up with shelves and drawers. They put in a contract for a nice set-up with drawers, bins for nuts and bolts and all kinds of other hardware, clamps, wire, etc., but that took a long time before it finally got approved. Not until we had parts piled up all over the place did they finally get something done about it. Really it was me that said "enough" and got with the supply SGT and we went to Lowes and bought plywood. I made shelves out of the plywood and used dunnage as support. It took two three-day weekends and the week in between to saw it all int he right sizes, sort everything out, store it, label it, and inventory it. This was about a month ago. So last week the guys who were going to set up our ISU real nice finally came by to put everything together so then I had to take everything back out. No surprise when I found out they were just installing the cabinets full of hardware and not the drawers for PLL storage that we desperately need. So now I have to store as much as I can in one side of an ISU-90 and the rest in our motor pool offices until I can get approval to get some cabinets with drawers installed.

WiFi-Warrior,
You do not need demands to START up a PLL, Just maintain the items in stock once you have it. You could be waiting a very long time if you had wait for demands first... The intial issue always change's as the Army changes, so it could 150 lines this year and 200 the next. In 1985 I work for the Navy as a Civilain on their Command Supply Inspection (I/G in Army talk) and the Navy calls their PLL a COSAL and I have seen upwards to 10,000 lines on hand. And the Inspection team had to inspect 10% of that..it took them days working day and night..Me I was lucky I inspecting the Galley's Food Stores, MWR, the "Slop" chest (a rolling PX), etc...Cigs cost 1.10 a carton once you got out beyond the 11 mile limit I think. I might forget how far, but once there, the prices drop like a brick. Anyhow back to the subject: You do not base your intial PLL on demands, IAW with your MTOE you are suppose to be "Issued" (or a freebe, it doesn't cost the unit the first time) the first PLL and then after maintain base upon demands. Best of luck to you wifi. I am a former 76C PLL/TAMMS guy and I recommend contacting your inspecting authority (IG, etc.)and taking ideas from them into account. Also the above mentioned MTO&E of a sis unit may help until you have demands recorded for support. Just make sure that nothing "stock authorized" goes down as an entry on your 2406. Again, best of luck.

I realize this response is kind of old, just a few things to keep in mind. The SAMS box will drop lines of your PLL automatically if there isn't a demand in 6 months. Also, the Army Force Management website will have your MTOE listed on it. You can search for your unit by UIC and then look up your authorized equipment and personnel. Someone from your unit will have to request access to it and your S2 or security officer to verify that they have clearance. I realize you are a few months into it but that's where I would start. It's a great resource.

Are you sure about that 6 month thing? We've had our stock of PLL for a little over a year now and it's still the same size. We've used maybe 10% of the lines at most, and that's really pushing it.

This is what the 92A from Shop Office told me. Figured it out doing our bench stock inventories and we would get the print out from Shop Office and random lines would be missing. If there is no demand in 6 months the box will drop it.
