Ok I got a list from my recruiter of jobs I may be able to get which is small. The reason is I am colorblind and for some reason they say now I failed Red/Green as well even though I passed it the first time I went in. I also have a current bankruptcy which keeps them from trying any clearance jobs. So I have a double whammy even though my Asvab is 98 and I have a college degree. Here is the list; 45B, 56M, 88N, 68G, 92A, 92M, 92Y. I have checked on them all and to be honest they seem boring. I am a former cop of almost 10 years and my interest in joining is waning. Anybody in these fields can convince me otherwise? I want to come back in but not to take a job I'll hate. I used to be 11B but now I cant even get back into that. Anybody got any suggestions??

Well I see on your profile that you wanted to go CID, with what you have presented here, I would forget that...UNTIL..you have some time under your belt back in the service.

You never mention why you are a "Former police officer"..something to do with what you posted here?

Now if you cannot get any clearance at all, I really don't know what they can offer you, your marketing is very slim. For even the ones you mention here that they said you can get...for the most part requires a cleanance..i.e. 92series...Supply is supply and one must have at least a conf clearance to work in it and as you progess up in rank so does the demand for a higher cleanance ( I at one time had T/S/SCI clearnace..you can't get much higher then that)

I wish you luck

I am a former police officer by choice, sort of. I resigned to go Dyncorp which did not work out. I have no crminal hostory at all, just financial. I still cant see how I can fail Red/Green this time yet I passed it before. Color vision does not go with age. I have near perfect health otherwise.

Sheesh, your list is smaller than mine was. I had HORRIBLE credit when I first enlisted. I couldn't even get a cell phone in my name. Now I have a secret clearance. If you just give it some time and stay out of trouble, when your re-enlistment comes up and you want to go MP you should be able to get a better clearance.

You have to decide whether or not proving yourself to the Army is worth a few years of your time as a cargo or supply specialist or whatever.

If you don't mind me asking, why didn't it work out with Dyncorp? I am currently a civilian police officer and was seriously thinking of either taking a leave of absence or just quitting and working for Dyncorp for a year or two. I have already been speaking with a recruiter from the company. Is there something I should know about the civilian police mission?

They over recruit for P.A.S.T. training classes so they can cut at random for no apparent reason so it shows they are trying to weed folks out when the State Dept looks at how selective they are. Take a leave of absence or even vacation while at P.A.S.T. You get cut the first day by the Psyche eval and its nothing like the police psyche eval. The one Dyncorp uses is about 20 minutes or so and they blindside you in the end. Its a way of them showing they are being selective and you have no idea they are doing it to you until it comes. You have to get in there and tell them exactly what they want to hear and they still can do it.

Thanks for the info, I did think it was a little strange that you basically had to turn your whole life upside down BEFORE you even know if you're selected to go. I'm single, so I would have to make all arrangements myself before I went and move out of my apartment. If I got cut, I would basically be homeless until I found a new place. Seems really assbackwards to me. Do you know why they do it that way?

Also you don't happen to know what percentage of people at P.A.S.T.are cut? I was planning on going in September and using the time between now and then to really amp up my P.T., practice with the weapons they use, and learn some of the history and customs of Afghanistan, and maybe even try to learn a little of the language. Are you telling me that it really doesn't matter how squared away I am, they just randomly cut people even if they see I have really prepared myself for this?

Sorry about the long post, but I'm desperate for info and I really appreciate your time. Thanks!

Yes that is what I am telling you. You get cut before you do PT or anything. I was prepared to go and my family dealt with me going away for a long while only to have to pick me up at the airport two days later. I heard the rate is 25% or more just for psyche. Prepare but don't overdo it. They, if you even get the chance will prepare you for life over there. PT is not somethign to get bent out of shape over either. If you can pass the military one, theirs won't be a problem at all. And they do it that way because just like Haliburton they can. They have this exorbitant budget from the State Dept and they make all this money for perpetuate their illusion. The salary for Afghan is 118,000 a year. They get $250,000 per warm body they bring over. The catch is they have to appear like they are screening for the best and brightest. Dyncorp may pay you the big money but they will screw you at some point abd if the situation presents itself they will hang you out to dry.

Thanks again for all the info. The thought of leaving my 12 year old son for a year to do this was really stressing me out. You seem like you know what you're talking about and I'm thinking I should just be happy with the job I have and forget this craziness althogether. Sorry it didn't work out for you, but maybe its the best thing for you and your family it didn't. Everything happens for a reason, when one door closes another one usually opens up. Just stay positive. If there's anything I can do to help you out just let me know.
