I just recently got out of the military in November after serving 7 years. I returned from Iraq and was chaptered out on the family care plan chapter due to anothher deployment in less then a year.
Now I have been reconsidering going into the reserves but I have been told many many different things. one i cant get back in becuase i am single, two i would have to give up custoday of my daughter.. I just want the facts I thought I knew but so many recruiters have told me so many different things they are staring to sound like the barracks lawyers I used to warn my soldiers about. So if any recruiter her can get me the right facts Id appreciate it!

my name is paul, I live in ILL. i was in the active army between 1984 to 1990. I was discharged with an honorable discharge and Now at 42 I am processing to go back in. My children is with their mother. There is a question that the recuriter asked me concerning my children. He said that the reserves does not like to take single parents in full time duty status.

If you served 7 years you should still have IRR time and would be able to join a Reserve unit without giving up your daughter. You would be required to get a family care plan though, in case of deployment. If you want more info e-mail me at vicki.straw@usar.army.mil
