I vaguely remember what the ABM career field used to be...back when I wasn't sure if I would go to UPT or have to find some other way to fly. Prior to ABMs being rated, individuals who were selected from within the "Non-Rated Ops" pool of cadets were not necessarily guaranteed to be flying aboard AWACS (nor, additionally now, JOINT STARS). My pure guess would be that all ABMs are fliers, as they are now a rated career field (then again, missile jockeys used to be rated, and the only thing they flew was an elevator).
I thought CSO was the new catch-all designation for the naviguessers, but I could be wrong.
For the original poster...a couple of things for ya, bud. First, "yes" -- you can do any of those as a butter bar (2LT). Second, don't disqualify yourself. Let DoDMERB (the folks who review your physical) do that. The vision requirements have changed at least twice, perhaps as many as three times, since I was a freshman cadet many years ago. The age requirements have changed as well. The best source of info you have is right there at your Det. There are a couple of much more recent AFROTC grads floating around these boards who may be able to hand out more current info, but that could easily change between now and the time you are ultimately categorized (used to be prior to Field Training, then it changed to your second semester of junior year). Plus, there are always pesky "waivers" to be had for certain medical issues -- including eyesight -- so I would use your AFROTC Det cadre to the maximum when it comes to things like this.
Are you a first year cadet getting ready to roll into year number two? Are you a recent HS grad getting ready to roll into year number one?
I was thinking the guys at air defense sectors in the US are ABM's. Not sure though. I know there is one at Tyndall, McChord, and one North East, one south west I don't remember where though.

My eyes are horrible. -11 contact prescription. I mean I can see great with glasses/contacts, but you have to have near perfect vision for flight jobs, right? As far as surgery goes, yeah I plan on getting it...but, that won't be until I'm in my 30s, most likely.

Well, I am about to start my first year of AFROTC. I did 2 semesters of Army ROTC as an elective last year, but now I have decided for sure that I want to go AF active duty. For reference I'll be a junior in college (started ROTC a bit late).
Thanks, I appreciate your answer. I will definitely be sure to ask officers in my detachment...there's just no one there at the moment to ask. Unfortunately I think my eyesight is going to be bad enough no matter what they've changed the requirements to.
Something I have learned along the way: Keep going until they pull you over. There are waivers for damn near everything. Don't eliminate yourself. Make them do it and then, don't leave, if they do. Also, remember: No one takes care of you like you do.
