I am currently in tech school for Intel Ops and everything was going great and then I failed a briefing. I have a 95% GPA and was understanding everything. I don't what happend but I really just blew this briefing and it knocked the wind out of my sails and has made me question my career choice. There are parts of the job that I really enjoy, and they are the exact parts that goes over into Airborne battle management. It works with the same kind of intel that I have already done. I really want to continue my civilian flying and possible get a masters degree and work on becomeing a predator pilot or some other type of UAV pilot. I am a bit too old for manned pilot systems and just dont feel it at a gut level. I know this job has avenues to working with UAV sensors and operating as well. I already have the clearance for it and a some of the backround training. Can anyone give more some more insight to the job? I am going to talk about this to my instructors at school. I am still in school and have another chance at passing the block. WEll any advice would be great. THANKS!
If you want to work with UAV's, the new AFSC 1U0X1 is the way to go. As enlisted you would be the sensor operator. If you commission and become an officer then I'm guessing you would have to compete to get the UAV pilot slot. If you want to make it happen, find a way and stay hungry to get what you want. Good luck on your decision.
As 18826229 said above, if you want to work with UAVs, the 1U AFSC is the route to go.
FYI, if you're talking about 1A4X1, it's now known as Airborne Operations and we no longer are being tasked for UAVs anymore with the creation of the new AFSC. However, we still work on the AC-130H/U Gunships as sensor operators.
Thanks guys I will look into that AFSC. Doesnt sound like I could do anything about it now, I gotta plug through the rest of tech. Maybe be able to x-train at operational.
