I keep hearing that my losing unit is supposed to purchase my flightsuits since I retrained. But when I talk to people in my squadron they don't know what I am talking about. Anyone know of any documentation saying this? Thanks.

you should be able to go to

https://etca.randolph.af.mil/
if not get with your training manager

and input your course number and should tell you that losing unit supplys your gear. We had a guy in our shop that was going aircrew and the squadron was a little ticked that they had to spend money on stuff like that, but oh well.

Losing unit pays for all the goodies. Each of the schoolhouses has somebody who will help you twist your losing unit's arm to make that happen.

Little Rock has one of the best arm twisters...no training NCO or supply sergeant wants to get the dreaded call from "Miss Marty".

They pony up the dough soon after the call, though.

Well I am PCSing next week and not sure I will get all my goodies before I leave. I am trying to find out the documentation of everything I am supposed to receive. I am in contact with my gaining unit at Hurlburt. If I don't get everything before I leave can I get it issued at Hurlburt but my old unit pay the bill?

So, what about a pipeliner going into an aircrew job?

Do they get issued flight suits and, if so, about when?

You will find all the documentation you need in the ETCA...we deal with this sort of problem all the time here at Kirtland.

Where are you heading for training?

If you are still having issues, shoot me an email with your AF global address and I will take care of it for you.

Your gaining unit shouldn't see you until you finish school unless you are a return from overseas. I wouldn't count on them spending the money on you either. If you don't get it before you go, you can get it at Little Rock as said above, they will get the funding from your old unit. How do you know where you are going if you haven't even started training yet BTW? I thought they didn't give assignments till after BFE.

As for the pipeline, there is a process in place to get the required gear to you when you need it. No need to drag extra stuff around till it is needed. Meaning, guys at aircrew fundamentals don't need flight suits, why issue them there?

I am a retrainee. I am going to be an aerial gunner. Since I am going to be on AC-130s my training is at the same base as my gaining unit. I have already completed all the tech school training. I guess I didn't explain that well enough or at all in my first post.

You have been to BAG and aircrew fundamentals already? If so you will be issued your gear at the 19th SOS, and they will charge your losing unit. They will not do anything with you till finish BAG, Survival, and water survival though.

Do you know if you are going to U or H models?

Yeah I have completed BAG, aircrew fundamentals, and all the of the survival schools. So I won't get my gear prior to PCSing Hurlburt? That will make things easier. Right now I am going to U models.

Sounds like your losing unit is trying to weasel its way out of its responsibility. I would just wait till you get to Hurlburt. The 19th will give you better stuff than the losing unit would have. Your losing unit would give you the bare minimums, where the 19th will hook you up with lots of goodies.

Does anyone know if we get "issued" a decent watch along with the other initial items. Mine sucks. I'm going to a CSAR squadron and I've heard they do things a little different as far as initial issue; i.e. more goodies. I've also heard that they used to issue really nice watches, but at the same time I know how the Air Force gets funny about money nowadays. J/W.

Every squadron is different. Some squadrons will issue SUUNTO watches, while others issue twenty dollar Casio G-Shock watches. It all depends on how much money they have to blow. It is all about being the right place at the right time.

I am not sure for AG's or Loads but the IQT issue does not include a watch. I just went through this process on monday. Basically have your RA call over to your school house POC and get them to send the list they send them the AFI, the ETCA announcement, and the List of Items. You will have to go to Life support to get sized for your helmet and O2 mask. Then go to your base supply store and hope they have all the items you need. Whatever you don't get before you leave as it was explained to me is given to you at your training and billed back to your squadron.

Come on...you are a guard bum. You probably will get issued a Rolex from the ANG. They seem to have no money for paying their guys, but bottomless pockets for buying flying gear.

that's some good "need to know info". i've been wondering how the process usually plays out. my losing unit is real stingy and this is gonna piss the budget lady off...can't wait to witness that. she wouldn't even let me do an issue exchange so i could get some non-steel toe boots for SERE. she said it was "because this is a voluntary retrain." I went the unwanted route and bought some used ones off of ebay for cheap.
this should play out nicely.

METNAV Guy you decided to jump ship after the merger to huh. I leave for my retraining next month and am finding out just how stingy my losing unit is to. I just had to buy my two pair of boots for Indoc because they wouldnt get me non-steel toe.

My G-Shock has proven to be much more durable than the Suunto. But I do love the big numbers on the Suunto.

I take it that your coming out of METNAV as well? I decided to jump ship because I didn't want that job anyway. I washed out of ATC during my initial upgrade training back in '04 and METNAV was given to me. I grad out of BFE next week and then off to Fairchild. Haven't even touched my airframe yet and I am already a happier person. No regrets here. You'll get to watch them steam when they HAVE to pay for your new stuff.
