Ok I'm trying to find out some answers. I keep hearing different things. We are PCSing to Lackland. We are stationed at MacDill AFB. We want to drive to San Antonio on the 17th of October to look for a house and fly back on the 22nd of October which means that is PTDY (I guess) 6 days. We want to leave Tampa on November 20 and move into our house on the 22nd. We want TMO to pack us up Nov 10th and us stay in TLF from Nov 10 - 19. Travel days would be 20-22 or watever. I need to know what will the Air Force pay of that and what we will be responsible for. Please help

I suggest you attend a smooth move briefing on base which will explain everything you are entitled to regarding the move.

Also, you will need to check with TMO to see how long the movers will be allowed to take to get your HHG from Tampa to San Antonio. It may be longer than 10 days, in which case if they pack you on the 10th they may not deliver on the 20th.

This is a question that is more suited in Relocation to be honest. If approved the mods from here can move it over there where it can get some more answers.

House hunting leave is all at your own expense, the military will not pay for any of it at all. He also has to get it approved first and foremost before anything can be done.

When you are PCSing you are limited to 350 miles per day to get Per Diem and MALT if you do it less than that you will only get paid for the days that you traveled. So if you do the drive in 2 days, then you will only get 700 miles and 2 days of Per Diem paid for. There is also no guarantee that you will get into a place on the 22nd at all. It will depend on what is available, where you are looking and what you are offered. You might find a place and then again you might not. Your things might not arrive until well after Thanksgiving. Yes they can do the drive quickly but your things might not be the only things being shipped by the company. you have to give them 3 weeks for things to arrive, maybe less but not always. There is also not a guarantee that it will only take 1 day to pack your things and the movers can do it that specific day.
