I'm doing my first partial DITY move of my career. I documented the process in an ehow.com article (
My question is- Has anyone used the U-Pack/They ship method with and of the container companies? For the most part, those PODS etc seem pretty expensive. Can you really keep the expense under the allotment that the military gives you, or will you end up overpaying? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Mrsjvb, |

Super Member 'Save the cheerleader, save the world' Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God. I'm freakin' crippled now. My butt-knuckle is killing me. |
Numbers, in case you haven't checked back on some of these threads you're posting on---you're about to either get a warning or suspended for using outside mil.com links/non-military approved links.
You will want to correct that and not use them in the future. *Just a friendly warning from a former Mod* To answer your question: yes. I've used UPack for one of my moves from OR to NE. You do just like the site says: estimate your square/cubic footage, pack it up, and off it goes. The trick to using them is to fill it ALL the way to the top of the trailer. And unless you have every single thing in perfectly square boxes--don't bother with them. Use every single drawer available or you're wasting space. I packed a 3 bedroom house into 900 square/cubic feet. Cost me just over $1000 to do it. Was WELL worth the money and hard work to do it myself though. Moving company would have cost me about 1K more. Got a friend who just left and put her house in a PODS. They dropped it off just like they advertise, she packed it as she saw fit, they came and got it and hauled it off to their storage unit. It'll cost her about $125/month for it. More room and cheaper than your typical 5X10 storage unit. There is a deposit/pick-up fee as well. She says it's more than worth it too. |
