Are you serious----1985??? I don't know that anyone has that info handy right off the bat. You'd probably be best served by contacting that installation from that time frame.

We still have my dh's LES from when he first enlisted in 90. What they make today compared to then is incredible. It definitley wasn't that much with him also getting Sea Pay, Sub Pay & COLA for Hawaii!!!

I ran the numbers using the BLS COLA calculator and found that what I made as an E-4 in 1977 and what the same pay is today is within 5%.

In 1985 it was BAS & BAQ, and paid by what you rent/ mortage payment was. I had to take a copy of my mortgage payment in 1986 when I changed mine to remove my only dependent.

Find that hard to believe. Are you sure?

If memory serves me correctly, in 1985 there was BAQ which was coupled with VHA ( Variable Housing Allowance) of which the amount was determined by the Zip Code of the duty station.

I used the historical pay charts and the Bureau of Labor Statistics calculator. Oct 1, 1976 the pay was $475.80 for an E-4 over 2. That means $1,829.74 in 2008. The current pay is $1,846.90. I consider that pretty close. BAQ was $147.90 COLA adjusted it is $568.38 versus $637.80, so that is a bit higher now, but overall the current pay is close to the COLA adjusted.
