Most all service members know that SGLI is great benefit. However, every once in awhile there is a service member that is an exception to the norm. In my case, I specifically denied SGLI in writing on the SGLV 8286 FORM. Yet, it was still deducted against my will. The same thing happened to my wife. My question is how do we get that money back. We have the original form, but the Personnel clerks are unable to help. Does anyone even know how to address this? I feel like I have been robbed.
If the personnel clerks where of no help then go to their chief and then to the DIVO if necessary. I certainly hope you have insurance that covers you elsewhere.
We did. We went up and down the chain-of-command. Nobody can crack the code on getting money unlawfully taken by SGLI. Most responses alre along the lines of "you had the coverage so you can't get the money back" even though we specifically said NO to the coverage, SGLI reached in our pockets and removed the funds. It is unbelievable and it happens all the time. And of course we have better life insurance that is moe flexible and pays with disability and not just death.
, I had the same exact thing happen to me not once.. But twice I filled out the SGLI form and handed it in excluding the coverage and STILL had the money taken out of my checks every month...
The FIX?
Go to your orderly room. Tell them the situation. They hopefully will be able to find the paperwork showing theh date you updated/declined coverage.
If you have a copy of the paperwork and it was signed off on with a date then take it customer service on base.(The MPF)
The NCOIC should be able to take care of the matter for you and the money will be refunded back to the date that is on the paper.
