Is anyone aware of where I might be able to find information about BAH while deployed? I am a single soldier living off base, trying to find out if I'll continue to receive my BAH when I deploy in 30 days.
Frankly, what I don't need is conjecture and hearsay. I've spoken with so many people who give me the "when I was deployed this/that happened..." but what I need is facts/regulations. I want to put my stuff in storage off base this time around, and now that I'm receiving BAH I can't help but wonder if it's going to stop once deployed and I'm going to eat the costs for storage on my own or if I will continue to receive BAH. Does anyone have any input on this matter? Thanks a ton in advance. |

Assuming that you're of rank and/or authorized to live off post due to over-crowding in the barracks....you will continue to receive BAH as you are now.
I honestly don't have the AR or the JFTR in front of me....nor do I really want to search through it tonight--it will make my eyes cross and I'll miss what I'm looking for. Just a thought: does your post have storage units available on post that you can either rent or use rent-free? We have storage units here that our single soldiers use when deployed and are either rent-free or they pay like $40/month to use. Just a thought. |

That's correct, I am of rank and authorized to live off base. Trying to get things organized before we leave so it's one less thing I have to worry about.
JPSO has offered to come pick up my stuff and store it on post, but I've heard way too many nightmares about stuff being broken into and/or damaged while soldiers have been deployed. This is why I'd like to do it privately. |

Then as far as I can see, you'll still receive BAH while you're gone.
lol...I don't blame you on the storage thing then. Check into PODS if it's available in your area--we have TONS of people using them right now since Ft Lewis seems to be emptying out. They're all over post, my best bud just left and she used them too. They're apparently cheaper than a storage unit, climate controlled, etc. Well worth the money from what I understand. |

I too am being deployed for the first time. I am being activated as a reserve. I don't get BAH normally, but will as an active duty. Is it at the rate of my duty location or where my house is. There is a big difference in the two, and have heard both answers.

Having done the whole Reservist thing, I can tell you with certainty that it will be based on the closest post to you--and that's a registered/larger post. Go to this site, pop in your info and that will tell you what your BAH will be. For us, we lived in a small town about 100 miles from the nearest registered Reserve Center-it was a regional center I think. Anyhoo, our BAH was based on that location, not our actual address. |
