Hi, I am currently looking to rent a new apartment, however I am leaving for Basic Training with the US NAVY on April 7th.

This leaves me little option as far as a lease goes. I am forced to find a place with a month to month lease option. So far I have found one apartment that offers this, and it isn't what im looking for at all.

I am wondering if it would be possible to start a longer lease and then cancel it once I am called in to active duty through the Soldiers and Sailors Civil Relief Act(or the Servicemen Civil Relief Act I believe its called now).

If anyone knows more about this option please let me know!

better question is why do you want to rent an apartment for a whole whopping 2 months?

also as a landlord I'd be pretty peeved at soembody who pulled a stunt like that, regardless of the law. heck it takes me 2 months just to unpack!

And if you're gonna be there only 2 months--who cares about the condition of the place or it isn't what you want it to be?? lol...Seriously, it's just a place to S.S.S, cook and eat, and sleep.

I'd be pizzed as hell at someone too if I knew someone did that to me as well.

To sign a lease longer than you intend to say is called fraud. Secondly, the SSCR would do you no good because you already have orders prior to originating the lease. find a room for rent or crash at a friends couch for 2 months. Save some money before heading off.
