Hello everyone! I am a new Army Wife, we just got married December 23rd. My husband is currently in AIT, about to graduate at the end of this month. I need some major help!
I understand that we are entitled to receive BAH, when we get to his duty station we're going to live off base, and I already know the rate for the city we're going to. Its just that we can't get any information on ANYTHING aside from general FAQ's. He can't seem to get any answers from his seargents at AIT either. It took him THREE weeks to finally be able to enroll me in DEERS. Is there any additional paperwork we need to fill out in order to receive BAH? Or is enrolling me in DEERS all we needed to do? I know that we may need to wait a period of time before we see the BAH reflected in his LES stubs and all that, and that we'll receive backpay, but I just need to know how we get it started? Thanks for helping me out and reading this. I appreciate it everyone. |

yes he must apply for BAH. it will be back dated to the date of marriage, but it will take about 30 days to kick in. it is also paid after the fact.. January's BAH is paid in February.

I kinda went through the same situation....this is what i ran into.We got married right after he got out of AIT but before he reported to his duty station.
Because he joined the army as a single soldier he was expected to arrive at his duty station as a single soldier. So we were unable to file for BAH until after he checked in at the base and went to DEERS to file for it. EVEN then it took time to process but like Mrsvjb said you will get paid from the time you were married-just takes time. So after he reported he stayed in base housing for a month while finding us a place to live off base. Since i was in your situation (clueless), I waited back home until he found housing (took one month). This worked well for us. I hope that helped some. That was just my situation. Bc your just starting out everything seems to take a while. Keep your chin up |

Actually while he is in AIT, the rate of BAH will be based on your zip code. When he gets accompanied orders to his location and reports in, then it will be based on that zip code. BAH will start as soon as your information is inputted into DEERS and backdated to the date you got married. It can take well over 30 days before it goes through, but not always. It will be included with his regular pay and divided on teh 15th and 1st of each month.
