Just want to see that im not the only one. i was kicked out the navy in Feb and even before that i was applying for jobs. i think ive applied for over a 100. anyone else have the job application blues? is there a light at the end of this tunnel??
Yes, but it really depends ** where you are looking. I've been at it for three m**ths trying to get work as a DOD civilan or a Federal Government ***. With 8 years Military and a College Degree its frustrating. Hang in there people tell me there is a light at the end of the tunnel, just d**'t give up.
Unfortunately many Federal Jobs is who you know or who you are related to, not what you know or Veteran's Preference.
I know, I have witnessed it first hand. It's sad, but the Federal Government places of employment I have had dealings with are the biggest discriminator against Veterans I have ever seen. Nepotism is rampant and regulations and rules are ignored. Civilians who have no previous Military experience are intimidated by ex military who have knowledge and experience.
I agree with you, it even has struck those of us that have the knowledge and experience that are ex military. I have been trying to get a job with the civil job since September 2007. I have 20+ years of experience in the military with Patient Administration, Recruiting and Retention, and Accounting & Finance, thou yet they say I am not qualified for those positions. No one reads anymore, either they let a computer skim your application for key words or they look only at one item in your whole application and disqualify you on that item. OH, by the way I am also in the GS system, just not in a specific position on anyone’s TDA. This just happened to me. The person looked at my GS level and disqualified me. She did not even consider that it had been almost 10 years since I had that position and within those 10 years I have had more experience (IN THAT GREEN SUIT) and got a degree in Project Management. This did not matter to her, even when I called. NEPOTISM AT IT’S FINEST IN DEED. Now they want to hire kids right out of school to erase their college loans. WHAT ABOUT MINE? Now they want to pay for their cost of living. WHAT ABOUT MINE? Oh by the way, I am also a 30 % disabled vet which only means I get told, “I DO NOT QUALIFY”, faster than before. WHAT A SYSTEM!!! No wonder they NEED people so BAD!!!! Their own people are doing this to their own organization. Loyalty at it’s finest.
Ex-military with veterans preference seem to have no place in the "military-preferred" job market. USA Jobs list hundreds of positions that seem to be just an opening to an endless void. I for one am sick and tired of this sham. I've spoken with people who have seen firsthand how deplorable the hiring process is at the service centers. They can attest to nothing but mind-numbing bureaucracy, not to mention fraud, waste and abuse. It's time for veterans who want to be heard on these positions to start rattling political cages.

I have found that ovr the years the VA IS NOT in the busines to help Veterans, but to protect to the VA's funds. I have learned most of my 'back doors' to the system then are real live humans who hold a coffe cup in one hand and a a stack of papers in the others for 8 hours a day. Sad, they are employed to help US, and it seems the only way they can get buy is planning thier next trip to the Bahama's. Sad, very very sad.
I found a great worker who took on my case after 19 years of pushing, and in 3 MONTH'S I was rated at 100%. But since my worker had the vet at first place in his mind, when the VA fired him for 'causing trouble' aka doing thier jobs, he committed suicide over the crushing blow of how low the VA will step too.
I got a Fee Basis Card, easisly applied from from the Tusckegee VA. Have your civilian doctor fill it out, and you will be able to visit civilian doctors at the cost of the VA. This is a little know fact. It is called a "Fee Basis Card"
I am 100% p & t IU, so my income is all I will have for the rest of my life.
I am trying to get a house grant to make my home disability friendly, if any of you know were to find that information, I would be gladdly appreciated of it.
God Bless and Thank You all for our service to our country. God Bless the USA Joebelle

You got kicked out? You will have a hard time getting a job. It is hard for a person that did his duty to get a job today. If you got kicked out, other than medical reasons. You are screwed! << MOD EDITED for content >>

Any time you say kicked out it is usually meant to be LTH. It sounds like they did not allow you to re-enlist. Please be a little clearer. And folks, please keep the tone civil.
