For the ladies out there. Do you think that 47 years old is too young to go into menopause? I haven't had a menstrual cycle for 6 months now. I seem to have a lot of aches and pains that I never had before, especially bone pain (hips and shoulders mostly). I'm wondering if the big M is approaching. Anyone?

My mom's been going through peri-menopause since I was in high school - so between about 40-45, and still now at 51. Her doctor (and other friends going through it) tell her that's totally normal, that the onset stage can take years, so even though it seems young it could be that "before" stage.

That's about all I got since I obviously have no info firsthand. Smile

It's not too young at all. I've heard of women in their 30s going into menopause.

Mine was induced thanks to a hysterectomy at 29 so I can't give you my experience. I was on hormones after surgery for almost 10 years and then stopped. That was about 5 years ago or so and I still struggle with hot flashes sometimes. I'll be glad when that is all done!

no it isn't, I have heard of women getting it in their 30s and 40s. it does depend on family female history (not just mother, but aunts, grandmothers, great aunts, etc...) to when it might as well.

Check with a doc about it definitely.

on a side note read the series of books called Hot Flash Club, very interesting, I thought they were hilarious.

Thanks ladies! I'll check out those books NWIP.

My gyn checkup is in a couple of weeks. I'll let her know about my lack of menses and such.

My wife became perimenopausal somewhere in her early 40s. She is still having occasional hot flashes at 51. When she was 47 she was freezing me at night with turning the air conditioning way down and then having a fan blowing on us all night. I was adding extra blankets.

LOL Luckily my husband prefers a colder room to sleep in as well! I leave a window in out bedroom at least partially open all winter long.

Started doing that in ME. When you live in a 2 story home, if you heat the bottom floor to be warm the heat rises and the upstairs is too hot. So, I would keep a window partially open to let some of the heat out of our bedroom so I could sleep at night. Wink

The weird thing is that I'm cold all the time. I load up on the blankets at night, meanwhile my poor husband is roasting. I do get hot flashes from time to time, though.
