Anyone have this done? I don't know a whole lot about it but was wondering....On the surface it seems like an easier to recover from alternative to a tubal ligation. From what I understand they insert something to scar up and block your fallopian tubes? Correct me if I am wrong. Like I said I have not researched it much.

I'm probably just going to get an IUD but am still hanging around the fence on this issue.

I'm not even sure Tricare covers it yet...

I had it done after my first and only was born. Its an outpatient proceedure and they insert metal coils into your fallopian tubes. It takes 3 months for it to fully scar up. I had mine done in a hospital since I was my drs 2nd case doing it. I had absolutly no pain whatsoever. There is very little bleeding after the procedure also. The only thing is its permanent so there is no going back once you do it. It was a hard decision for me to make but i am glad I did it. You also have to carry a card with you saying you had it done b/c you can't have an MRI done in your midsection otherwise they will get ripped out. I recovered though in about 40 mins from it.

I am getting this done on the 30th. It is great if you are sure you are done. I had the IUD and got pregnant. I am glad to hear there was no pain. I drove myself home from the hospital after I had my last and am planning on doing it with this. It is less painful for me to do this than find a babysitter for recovery of regular tubal ligation.lol

I completly agree with the no pain thing. I told DH that we had to go shopping when we were done after the procedure and he kept telling me that I would be in no mood to do anything! Boy was he wrong! Big Grin I had heard a lot of horror stories about tubal and thats why I was glad my dr. recommended the Essure procedure!

This is precisely why DH is getting "clipped" when we're finished having children. It's much easier for him and I don't have to worry about a surgery or an MRI rippin' out my coils.(OUCH!!!) Wink

Essure method is 99.8 percent effective in preventing pregnancy. Unlike tubal ligation or vasectomy, the Essure procedure does not require incisions or punctures to the body and there is no cutting, clipping, suturing or burning of tubes. The micro-inserts do not contain or release hormones and are constructed with medically safe materials. For more information on essure visit the following site..

I know one person who had it done, and after testing (they do that once they believe they are all scarred over) got pregnant with her 6th, yes 6th child. No. 5 came after her husbands vasectomy. I don't think anything is fail safe anymore. I had 2 miscarriages after my husbands vasectomy (yes he went back and tested clean too). Now I have my tubes tied, but the dr. said there is a 1 in 150 chance that it will not work and there is no way to "test" to make sure it will work. All of my friends are picking on me (even the preg. one!) saying that when dh returns from deployment that I will be one of those 1 in 150!
Good luck in whatever you decide to do. I am not sure what to tell you. I know when I had my tubal ligation that I didn't have abdominal pain at all.

Wow I forgot I wrote this question way back when!

I currently have the mirena IUD b/c I am too chicken to do anything permanent. Plus we are Catholic so if the guilt gets to me I can have it removed.

I did almost barf in my kitchen sink last week, but after a few hours of worry before I could buy a test (that turned out negative), I figured it was probably b/c I took my vitamin with extra iron on an empty stomach. Dh happened to call home about something after the dry heaves and before the negative hpt and I think he had a small heart attack. If I got pg again it would be our 5th child (and I would have to change my screen name to mmt5!).

I would be glad you have not had it done. I got pregnant however on the IUD so this was my last ditch effort. I got it done about 9 months ago and have been so sick that now they just told me I have to have a hysterectomy to feel better. Just thought I would let you know that some side effects are awful to this procedure.

I had the essure procedure done about 7 months ago. I have no complaints. I was pretty much useless the rest of the day because I had to sleep off the anesthia. I had some light cramping and bleeding but it only lasted a few days. So all in all I would do it again.

Hi, anyone know if Essure is covered by tricare? My wife and I are trying to decide between essure and vasectomy, and comments are welcome!
