Interestingly enough, I would like to have a set of "fakes" with my name on them, to collect. Having served there, I wouldn't want another Brothers name on them.
There was a suburb of Saigon called Cholon, the center of black market activity. They also manufactured fake Zippos and fake Seikos there, amongst other things that I would assume are highly collectable,...if you can tell the difference. The Zippos had a distinguishing feature on the bottom, and the only way you could tell the watches were fake was when they stopped working a day after you wore them. The lighters worked fine...
Interesting Post. I fought with Fox 2/5 in Hue and I don't remember hearing of anyone loosing their dog tags. The only time I ever herd of anyone loosing them was if they were kia or wia and then your buddies recovered them in most cases. where and how did these guys loose them?
Flash, Doesn't it seem strange to you that they had so many undamaged tags? I saw a few that were severely damaged but if they were undamaged they were picked up!
Something smells rotten in Saigon!
Good work brother! Once again snopes to the rescue!
When the story broke, it seemed appalling,..and then difficult to believe. But as it was being investigated and more info surfaced,.. my experience in III Corps with Vietnamese Vendors led me to believe they were indeed copies.
