Hi! My Dad passed a way a couple years ago and I fear I did not know much about him. I know that he was in Korea and Vietnam from 1963-1971, He received many awards and a purple heart. His name Was Charles L Long. He was Army. Here on Military.com it says he was E5 Sargeant. His brother was in as well and died there. His name is on the wall under Joseph Leroy Long (PFC). Charles L Long was of Kingston, NY. I do have this writing on a piece of paper that says Company C, 8th Battalion, 3rd Regiment. Does anyone know him or of him? I have pictures though they are not great and would love to aquire some more....but I could offer a picture or two from the war if someone thinks they may know him. Thanks
If you found his DoD profile on MIl.com, what did it say his MOS was? During the VN War, with the exception of US artillery units and Aussie units, there were no 8th battalions. If he had an infantry MOS are you sure it doesn't say 3rd battalion, 8th regiment. Is there anything written on the back of any of the pictures? If you don't mind, please provide a direct link to the info you found here on Mil.com and I'll take a look at his MOS.
What do you mean by this ... "His name is on the wall under Joseph Leroy Long (PFC)."???
This is all I found on him. I have what I wrote down when he died but I may have written it incorrectly. I did request his military history but I was hoping someone could maybe tell me something about the wars he was in, ansd if someone knew him maybe they could tell me more about him than I shamefully never bothered to find out......
Oh and his name isn't on the wall, his brother is on the wall.
I'm taking a guess here but I think you mean C Company, 3rd/8th, 4th Infamtry Division. If so, he probably served in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam.
I can't thank you enough for that information! You are right. I forgot about the Company C part.....Do you know anything about that war or division or anything? I am looking to find perhaps a website or people that may have served with him.....absolutely anything I can find....I am working on a porject to get as much knowledge as I can about my father so I can eventually share it with my sons.
