I hope someone can tell me where I can go (online) to find military records for Viet Nam vets.
I'd like to find the records for my ex husband. I beleive his Tour of Duty was 1966-67. He was born in New York in 1944.
His name is Martin John Waunsch. I beleive he was a private. He came home wearing one of those brass bracelets and did mention a few times about fighting with the 'mountainyards' (I'm sorry, I just don't know how to spell that)

Any help would be extremely appreciated.
Thank you

mplcs,

I don't want any personal information on him....I know where he lives ect ect...
I just want to find out what unit he was with...I cannot remember what he said, I seem to recall him mentioning 1st Cav., but it's been too long.
So, can you tell me where I could find out what unit he was with over there?

Thank you so much.

Access to Military Records
Veterans and next-of-kin of deceased veterans have the same rights to full access to the record. Next-of-kin are the unremarried widow or widower, son or daughter, father or mother, brother or sister of the deceased veteran.

Authorized third party requesters, e.g., lawyers, doctors, historians, etc., may submit requests for information from individual records with the veteran's (or next of kin's) signed and dated authorization. All authorizations should specify exactly what the veteran (or next-of-kin) is allowing to be released to a third party. Authorizations are valid one year from date of signature.

I am not looking for benefits or anything like that...what I would like to find out is what unit he was in during his tour of duty in Nam.

Can you point me in the right direction to do that?

Thank you very much.

I haven't spoken to him in 25 years. I was researching my father's military tour for WWII, and got curious about my ex....I wanted to research his steps in Nam if I could.
Thanks, though.

If you have any pics of him in uniform during or after Nam you might be able to tell by the patch what unit.
with that info goto the unit website and look around some have a lot of pics and maybe a forum.
If so ask if anyone knew him there.
Try talking to his family or maybe a friend who knew him after Nam.

The fastest solution and the one I like best is get some other Nam Vet to get drunk and wasted with him.
It will all come out.

25 years is a long time. May be it's about time to pick up the phone and give him a call or send him a short letter. There must be someone both of you are willing to act as a go between.

If he was with the 1st Cav. there could be deep wounds that he is still suffering from.

The US has good relationships with ***an and Germany - maybe you two could at least speak to each other.

Just some advce from an old soldier - it's worth what you are paying for it.
