If you find it, please post it. Cannot locate anything other than the collar insignia. Would like to do up a sketch.
Is it anything along the lines of the IV mark ??? |

The Reservist Magazine special "Uniform" Issue 2006 does a GREAT job of describing the CG Uniform, badges & ranks. |

Easiest way was to upload image as my Public Profile image.
WAY too large to post here, not sure how to shrink it... |

Thanx JerryG
An extremely rare specialty mark to find, a quick sketch then. The enlisted rating was established for E-6 and above about Spring 1982, but the specialty mark wasn't designed until about 1983. The description was, the scales of justice, surcharged with a LE shield. The Warrant INV mark is really detailed, very nice work. Graphics here if they are of interest. With the establishment of the new LE rating, another topic mentioned the change in insignia. The LE shield is prominent in both the PS and IV ratings. Perhaps just changing the lettering in the PS mark, and leaving the PSS warrant as is, will be the easiest conversion. This message has been edited. Last edited by: MastersMate, |

Mastersmate:
Both the PS Rating and the PSS Specialty will be going away (i.e. decommissioned) within the next two years as the ME rating and MESS(?) Specialty come on line. Do you think any FSs will apply for the MESS Specialty by mistake? |

Noticed a topic over on a cpo web site entitled "the best JO is a CWO". Tongue in cheek, perhaps. I'm guessing then, from the number of comments over the last few tears, that in the present day organization that the grade of Chief Warrant Officer has been downgraded and equated to that of junior officer. If that is the case, it is no wonder that there appears to be this over riding theme of animosity between those in the cpo grade and cwo grade.
From a USN History of the Warrant Officer " It is a great tribute to the warrant officer community that there exists the potential to undertake the spectrum of technical, operational or management positions. For although by precedence he ranks after the junior officer, he is recognized and esteemed today for what he always has been - a highly skilled and proven professional. Not a "junior officer" but a warrant officer." Source: US Navy. LDO & Warrant Officer Programs. NP-15525. Washington: Government Printing Office, 1982 I'd guess this level of respect no longer applies. |

A new ENS just reported aboard locally, straight from the CGA (she's two years younger than my son).
Anyways, she took to immediately calling me "sir" (probably because of the bald greyness); I got a funny look or two from her when I started calling her "Ma'am". I gently reminded her she outranked me, and that I would continue calling her "Ma'am" if she continued calling me "sir." Haven't heard a "sir" since. |

I found out the Warrant Officer specialty for the ME Rating will be the MLES Specialty (Maritime Law Enforcement Specialist). Their symbol for both will be the IV/PS LE-type shield with the standard CG shield inside it. I guess it was used a LONG LONG time ago in a galaxy far, far away... |

I am sure it is all good natured fun! I have tremendous amount of respect for Warrants. They sure do help with the Wardroom when needed as they are in a unique position to see both sides. GUNS |

Chief, no doubt it was/is all in jest, has been for ages. But it is the title that is the troubling bit. There are a thousand slams that can be made back and forth, but it seems to be that mindset, THE BEST JO (Junior Officer) IS A CWO.
A Chief Warrant Officer is about the farthest thing you could consider to be a Junior Officer. Junior officers are Ensigns and Lieutenant jg that are learning and developing their craft. A Chief Warrant Officer has spent years perfecting their craft that covers the many feeder rating specialties. They have proved their expertise by getting to the position of receiving the appointment. It appears, upper management has adopted the stance that the CWO is just another JO. If that impression has trickled down to the E-6 and above that are going for those positions, then they are taking the appointment with the wrong mindset from the start. The last excerpt from the USN Warrant Officer article, I believe, states just what the Warrant Officer is. If that has been lost, then, that would explain the title of that other topic. " For although by precedence he ranks after the junior officer, he is recognized and esteemed today for what he always has been - a highly skilled and proven professional. Not a "junior officer" but a warrant officer." |

One of my favorites is hearing W4s being addressed as "Ensign (lower half)", usually at CCTI of course.
